The group flight usually arrives in the evening and we transfer to our hotel. After meeting the rest of the group you'll be able to relax at the hotel.
In the morning we have our trip briefing, followed by bike fitting before we set off on a warm up ride round Havana. Traffic is remarkably light for a capital city. We cycle through Miramar and Vedado districts to reach the dominating Plaza de la Revolucion - with its images of the Cuban Revolution - whilst Buicks and Pontiacs cruise past with gleaming chrome and extravagant fins. We continue towards Old Havana and get off our bikes after making a stop at El Capitolio; the famous National Capitol Building, which is superficially similar to United Sates Capitol in Washington D.C. We finish our sightseeing with a stop for lunch in a local restaurant and then transfer to Vinales (2.5 hours approximately) for dinner and overnight.
Cycling Distance: Approx 20km
Spend the day exploring this stunning valley, famously the area where the world's finest tobacco is produced. The Valley is justifiably a World Heritage Site with it's dramatic scenery and carefully tended agricultural land. We set off in the morning and visit the Cueva del Indio, part of the largest cave system in the New World. From there we cycle along backroads and up to one of the finest views of the valley where we stop and enjoy a Cuban country lunch. The ride back down to Vinales is gentle and we have some time to explore this charming town. Transfer to Las Terrazas this afternoon.
Cycling Distance: Approx 30km
This morning we get on our bikes and cycle to the Casa del Campesino to enjoy a typical Cuban lunch. After lunch there's time to visit the local community and have a go at zip lining (optional) before we get back on our bikes and cycle 5km to the Rio San Juan where we enjoy a refreshing dip in the river. We then have a longish transfer to Playa Larga (4 hours approximately). We check into our simple hotel for the night and enjoy the beach before heading out for dinner in a local restaurant Cycling Distance: Approx 8km
We set off after breakfast heading directly east along the coast of the Bay of Pigs. We cycle to Playa Giron where there is a museum which commemorates the Bay of Pigs invasion, one of the most important events in Cuba recent history. After visiting the museum we get back onto the bikes and continue a short way to Caleta Buena where we stop for a buffet lunch and a swim. Caleta Buena is a natural sea pool teaming with tropical fish and protected from the coast by a sea wall. It's a fabulous place to try out snorkelling or simply for jumping in and enjoying the Caribbean sea. From here we go by bus to Trinidad arriving in time to check into our Casas Particulares for the night.
Cycling Distance: Approx 42km
After breakfast this morning we set off by foot to explore the centre of Trinidad. We also stock up on picnic supplies so that once we have finished sightseeing, we can head off for the beach by bike. Ancon beach is about 12km from Trinidad and is a picture perfect Caribbean beach. Enjoy picnic lunch on the beach before heading back to Trinidad in the afternoon. Make sure you give yourself time to visit the open air handicraft markets in Trinidad where you can pick up beautiful souvenirs of Cuba. This evening we enjoy dinner all together in a local restaurant.
Cycling Distance: Approx 12km
After breakfast we set off on our journey back to Havana (approx. 5 hours), stopping in Santa Clara to visit one of Latin America's most iconic leaders. Che Guevara was from Argentina but he was buried in Santa Clara because it was in Santa Clara that he masterminded the ambush which led to Revolutionary victory. We visit his mausoleum before continuing on to Havana. We'll make a stop somewhere for lunch and will reach Havana mid afternoon in time for check in to our hotel in Old Havana.
This morning is free time to do some more sightseeing in Havana, perhaps taking time to explore the historic centre with its marvellous monuments and plazas. Those on group flights will be transferred to the airport this afternoon.
