Reality Check
Reaching Costa Rica will involve approximately 14 hours of air travel and it can be hot and humid, especially on the Caribbean coast. These conditions can be tiring.
Whilst the driving distances are not huge and most roads are good, some are of poor quality/pot holed, which can result in slow driving times. Particularly, this applies to the road to the motorboat on the way to and from Tortuguero and the roads in and out of Monteverde. No drives should be more than 3 - 4 hours.
There are dangerous insects and snakes present in the jungle and cloud forest, although attacks are extremely rare. Advice from the guide must be heeded at all times - it is the responsibility of parents to ensure that children listen to the guide and don't stray from paths.

Our Family Group holidays usually cater for children from 5 years old. However, experience tells us that children tend to prefer mixing with their own age groups, especially teenagers. That’s why we’ve designated certain departures on our group trips as particularly recommended for teenagers. Whilst we don't restrict younger kids from joining these holidays, the 'recommended for teenagers' departures means there are likely to be other teenagers to share the experience with.
