Croatian River Adventure - Family Holiday

Day 1
Your trip starts in Split where you transfer (40km) to Trilj, your base for the week, where you check in to your hotel. You will stay in a small hotel located right on the Cetina River. Rivers, canyons, forests, country roads, hills and caves in the area provide wonderful settings for adventure, water sports and relaxation.

Day 2
After breakfast you transfer to the Cetina River, where you can start your rafting. The Cetina is widely considered the first and best white water rafting river in Croatia. Traditionally, Croatians have been travelling the river on wooden rafts, but we go for the safer and more comfortable option of inflatable rafts! The Cetina is a dam controlled, safe river with some wild grade four and five rapids and big waves - this is a great river to try your hand at white water rafting. The river gradually slows and changes into easier rapids and calm sections which are great to relax in, swim and enjoy the spectacular scenery of forest covered canyon and trees that reach the water's edge. Please note: if the water levels are low and the river too calm for rafting, kayaks will make the trip more interesting.

Day 3
Today you get your first introduction to kayaks and canoes as we head to an upstream section of Vrlika River, one of the most beautiful parts of the river with warm waters throughout the summer, making it warm and pleasant for swimming. Today you can test some of the skills you learned yesterday as we head to a different stretch of the river for some kayaking. In the evening you can relive your experiences on the river over dinner!

Day 4
Today you embark on a bike tour along country roads and through villages of the area. This is a great way to see the country at a pace that allows you to experience it very differently than if you were driving: you can stop to chat to people, wave at kids, and generally see those little things by the roadside that end up as your favourite holiday shot. There are many great routes to take, and your guides know some of the best!

Day 5
The Adriatic coast is a great place for sea kayaking. Strong currents, big waves and strong winds are rare, making paddling much easier, especially for people with less experience. There are plenty of islands and picturesque spots to explore. You can enjoy the sunshine and warm water, and in your sea kayaks you will be able to get much closer to the rocks; the thin line between the sea and land where hundreds of colourful fish and other creatures seek food and shelter. Of course there will be time to relax and enjoy a swim as well!

Day 6
Head back to the river today, for a canoe safari on the Cetina River. The river never ceases to provide breathtaking views with its open green meadows that lead into dramatic high sided karst cliffs. Travelling down by canoe is the best way to experience the river, as you can travel at a leisurely pace and take in the beautiful surrounding scenery.

Day 7
On your final day you can be as active or as lazy as you wish. You can take a bicycle tour to other places of interest in the area or set off on foot for more independent exploration. If you are ready for some urban surroundings, why not visit Split, Croatia's second largest city. Split offers an exciting mix of the old and the new, as you can wander cobbled streets, visit ancient buildings or sit at a sea front cafe. Just outside the city are some coastal paths you can explore.

Day 8
The group will be transferred to Split (40km) this morning, where the trip ends. Those on the group flights will fly back to London.
