  • KRAKOW AND THE TATRAS - FAMILY HOLIDAY

The tour guide Peter was excellent. Everyone in the group got on well together. Krakow and Northern Slovakia were great. Zakopane isn't very touristy. The hotel in Zakopane was a joke not of the standard expected at all and nothing to do with variation in standards between countries. Hotel in Poprad was very good, the hotel in Smokowitz was ok but no choice for breakfast. The last hotel in Krakow weas excellent and would go back there. Overall really enjoyed holdiay.

    Exodus Response

Please note that this review (and those prior to it) refer to the 2012 Exodus operated tour ‘Krakow & the Tatras’ which has now been replaced by the similar 2013 ‘Tatra Mountain Adventure’ tour.

Please also know that customer feedback is extremely important to us. We have now changed the accommodation used in Zakopane for future trips.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
the spa hotel in poprad was amazing. the brochure doesnt make it clear that the price there is half board - so dinner is included and there is very little else to spend money on. the free access to the pools is until late at night so after the day out you can laze in the outdoor heated pools or in the swim up bar pool to drink cocktails or watch the lazer show in the thermal pools. it was really fab- there is a lovely steam/ spa area too and cheap massages etc. the children absolutely loved it too!
What did you think of your group leader?
excellent- as exodus leaders always are. extremely knowledgeable about the country and went out of his way to show us little gems off the beaten track that weren't even in the itinery. very helpful too.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
be prepared for cold weather in the mountains in august. i didnt take my walking coat and would have been glad of it. also zakapone is a busy holiday resort especially for polish people - almost the eqivalent of lake windermere- you are not staying in mountains in the middle of no where which is what i thought. i took travellers cheques which were a waste of time and the little currency booths dont change them. much better to have travellers cheques and  a credit card.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
krakow is a beautiful city - worth all the time spent there to enjoy it. visit the chocolate cafe in the main market  square.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The hotel in krakov was not very good.  It was also too far from town to be very convenient, particulary with all the road works going on.

The Aquacity hotel, it seems had inlcuded our evening meals but we were not informed of this and went out to eat which costs us extra and was inconvenient.  we thought it was breakfast only.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The way in which the group of families got on so famously. It was as if we had known each other for years the whole ethos of the trip was one of friendship and enjoyment. The kids got on with being kids, no compuers, no tele it was great just to see them enjoy the outdoors and not complain once about having to walk, cycle or swim each day.

What did you think of your group leader?

She was magnificent, (Asha) was friendly, intelligent, full of fun and extremely helpful. She helped make the trip a very enjoyable experience.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Check the destination hotels and their environs to make sure it is what you want before you go.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

More thought needs to go into the location and facilities of the tour hotels. Our first hotel although comfortable, clean and friendly was situated in the centre of a number of bars, nightclubs etc and therfore the noise, singing, fighting lasted into the early hours, not a family environment.

The second hotel was excellent all round but the third was another let down as it was to far outside Krakow. Rather than being able to sample the atmosphere of Krakow from a centrally located hotel , most days we had to travel through Krakow rush hour on our way back from the days trip, wasting valuable holiday time, just to get washed and changed in order to take a taxi back into town to find somewhere to eat and drink.

Additionally on arrival at the hotel we and some of the other families, found that we had been allocated rooms which were not adjacent to each other, which was obviously difficult with children, when there were clearly rooms with connecting doors which we could have been allocated.
