Frequently Asked Questions

About Your Trip

Do we need previous canoeing experience?

No previous experience is required as the unsinkable canoes are easy to paddle, although a general level of fitness is recommended. Life vests are provided however we do also insist that you can swim. Before the
first day’s trip a full briefing will be given on how to paddle the canoes. There will also be some gentle walking/cycling throughout the trip to explore villages and surrounding area. Please note that all of the activities can be opted out of.

Can we make our own way to the start point?

Les Eyzies is about 45 mins drive from Brive-La-Gaillard (the Eurostar arrival station), and a taxi is likely to cost over Eur 100. You are able to get a train to Les Eyzies (see: www.voyages-sncf.com), however the Sunday timetable is fairly limited. We therefore suggest that if you don’t have your own transport, you join at Brive-La-Gaillard and take the group transfer. For more detail on how to do this, please contact Exodus.

What is the camping like in the Dordogne?

All camping equipment is provided except for your own sleeping bag and mat. The equipment we use is of a high standard and includes roomy two person tents, camp chairs, basic kitchen, various games and entertainment for when relaxing in camp. You should expect to erect and dismantle your own tent and the whole group generally helps to load the support vehicle on the day when we move camp. (This is a quick and easy job). It would also be appreciated if you would give a hand the washing up after breakfast!

To book on a Family Adventure Holiday at least one member of the family must be under the age of 18. Is a family adventure right for my family?

If you are the sort of family that enjoys meeting other families and have a passion for discovering new places and trying new activities, then you’ll love going on a Family Adventure. With a Tour Leader to take care of daily arrangements, you can relax and get on with the serious business of spending time with your family and enjoying your holiday. And it’s not just parents who take their children away; we’ve had a number of children travelling with just their grandparents too!

Itineraries are carefully planned to provide a good balance of activity and relaxation time. You can opt to stay with the group all the time or go off and do your own thing every now and then. Your leader will be on hand to help you find your way and organise optional activities. And if the local food isn’t pleasing everyone in the party, it’s usually possible to sneak off to the occasional pizza parlour or similar, to get something a little more familiar.

Our holidays are designed to take you to unusual or remote places, give you exciting experiences and allow you to make the most of your precious holiday time. As with all adventure holidays, there is inevitably an element of risk that you might not find on a resort-based package. However, safety is taken very seriously and our professional leaders will take all necessary precautions to run the trip safely. You will get to see wonderful sights, have the opportunity to interact with local people and create memories that will stay with you forever. Come with us and let us share our passion for travel with you!
