FINNISH ISLAND HOPPING
8 days at - land only
Tripcode: LSF
Cycle amongst the 20,000 islands of Europe's largest archipelago.
The history of Turku dates as far back as the Stone Age and is the perfect gateway from which to explore Finland's most stunning natural phenomenon. Over a thousand years ago people came to the archipelago to hunt and trade. Some of them stayed and built the trade connections with St. Petersburg, Tallinn and Stockholm that still play a vital role in the life of the inhabitants of the islands. Cycling through vibrant Kustavi and the remote island of Inio, we discover the heart of the archipelago, passing mediaeval greystone churches, picturesque harbour villages and coastal towns, travelling to spots only accessible by ferry. Naantali is one of the oldest cities in Finland and was founded around the mediaeval convent church that dominates the skyline, while the nature trail to the top of Kasberget Hill offers magnificent views of the area. Our route takes us through peaceful country back to Turku with the stunning archipelago landscape as a backdrop.
