  • CYCLING THE PYRENEES TO THE MEDITERRANEAN

The relatively easy cycling pace with straight forward directions made this a relaxed trip which we needed.  We enjoyed picnics along the route by shopping in the morning before starting out.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Cycling along the railway cuttings between Olot and Girona. Ice cream in Girona and exploring the city walls.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
We travelled via Girona Airport but the transfer to Ripoli is difficult. There are no direct buses and the service is limited on Saturdays so the choice is either to allow extra time to travel to Barcelona and take the train. This was not an option for use and a taxi for 2 cost £155.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
The hire bikes where basic and heavy, just about adequate.  I think they should have been better for the cost to hire.

The cycling was wonderful although it helped that we had sat nav . Having done lots of Exodus cycling trips I would rate it as moderate rather than easy/moderate.The bikes were fine . The hotels were BASIC

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The costal ride to Tossa on the last day.  Absolutely stunning
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

We were 2 experienced cyclists and 2 novices and the trip worked well for all

I would eat out even on the nights when dinner is included . There are some lovely restaurants in all of the towns you stay in and all are inexpensive

In the Sant Pau in Barcelona make sure you request a non smoking room .

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The trip would be massively enhanced if Exodus sorted the transfers to Rimoll and from the coast to Barcelona

Also please please upgrade your hotels

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Cycling along in the sunshine through the fields from Olot to Girona
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
If you have any concerns regarding transfers from the airport or other problems speak to exodus staff - they were very helpful and sorted out our issues.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Great holiday, cycling really good, a bit tiring at times but not too much at all.  Should be reasonably easy if you are quite fit already.  Hotels good, baggage transfer and exodus staff very helpful.  I would highly recommend it!!

Lovely trip with some good cycling (quite challenging up in the Pyrenees) and some add on options if you wanted to do a bit more.  Accommodation all good.  The cycling was generally very scenic.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Really enjoyed the cycling up in the mountains and the free day in Girona was great - not a city I would have ever thought of going to but thoroughly worthwhile.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Try to stay on in Barcelona or arrive early because 1 day is nowhere near enough.

Be prepared for prices quoted in your trip notes to be out of date.  The taxis were always more and some of the train and bus journeys.

Despite what's written in the trip notes do go to St Felieu bus station in advance of your trip back to Barcelona to book your place because the buses do get full.  Also, the times the hotel gave us were wrong so best to go along and check.  It is only a couple of minutes' walk from the main square in St Felieu.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The bikes struggled to handle the cycling on the day we went from Orlot up the trail to the Volcano - mountain bikes with semi-slick tyres would have been better suited.

More instruction on how to use the gears on the bike would have been useful.

On the whole another great holiday.  This is the 5th time we have travelled with Exodus and will continue to do so (others we have done have included cycling in Vietnam, Morocco, South Africa and Italy - all cracking trips).  We love the self-guided cycle option - could Exodus lay on some more destinations?
