A taxi transfer from the airport to Les Gets, then there is time to explore this pretty alpine village. Alternatively you may want to enjoy a swim at the hotel pool before sampling M Holminal's delicious cuisine.
A well-marked path will take you to the summit of Mont Chéry (1826m) for stunning views of Les Gets valley. There's a fantastic panorama from the top, including a first sighting of Mont Blanc, before you descend through a flower-filled meadow to Col de l'Encerenaz. Skirt below the jagged peaks of the Pain de Sucure and Pic de la Dollaz and descend to Montriond. Then it's an easy riverside walk up to your chalet hotel beside Lac de Montriond.

A day at your leisure to enjoy local walks in the Lac de Montriond area. Hightlights in the area include an exhilarating ridge walk to Ardent Waterfall, the bustling village of Les Lindarets, and Super Morzine ridge with its fantastic 360° views. Full walking notes are provided.
The highlight of today's walk is the magnificent limestone pyramid of Mont de Grange (24323m). The area is home to over 500 chamois, mouflons and red deer. From the summit you will experience a huge alpine panorama, being able to see as far as Italy and central Switzerland. It is then a relatively steep decent to the village of Châtel.

Another day at your leisure. There are lots of well sign-posted footpaths in the area, including a walk into Switzerland. Alternatively you may choose to stay in Chatel, visiting the village market, swim, play golf, or even hire a water bicycle and take a trip out onto Lac de Vonnes.
From Le Morclan (1970m) you fell you can reach out and touch the jagged teeth of the Dents du Midi, with Mont Blanc to the south and a sweeping view east of the Baernese Alps. Today you follow the old smugglers' route high up along the Swiss border. Descend down through lush Alpine meadows thick with beautiful wild flowers to the village of La Chapelle, with its famous onion-domed church.

If you're still feeling energetic you may want to challenge yourself to climb the Cornettes de Bise, as high as Mont de Grange (2432m), and home to one of France's few ibex reserves. Or you can take an easier walk to Lac d'Arvouin. But if you feel like relaxing the hotel has a pool area and the village is lovely just to wonder in.
From the Pointe de Lachau (1962m) you can see the Matterhorn, a staggering 80km away! It's then a steady decent to the hamlet of Ubine, where old chalets and the 17th century chapel hug the sheer wall of Mont Chauffé. In the afternoon is almost all downhill to your hotel where you can relax in their private sauna and Jacuzzi.

Opposite the hotel is the 12th century Abbye de l'Assomption. The church is impressive but the Gothic cloister and murals by Giacomo Jaquerio are the real highlight. You can also take a day trip to Thonon for a boat ride on Lake Geneva.
Today you have a choice of two different walks. The less energetic takes you to the Pointe des Follys, a great picnic spot and a perfect, relaxing end to your holiday. Or, weather permitting, you could climb to the wonderfully isolated lake, Lac de Tavaneuse, where the setting is truly stunning with magnificent views as you go over the Col de Tavaneuse at 2000m. The group meet back in St Jean d'Aulps for the ride back to Les Gets. Walking time: 5hrs
