For an area like California, with the wide range of hotel accommodation available, we were very disappointed by the standard of some of the accommodation provided - for the cost of the holiday we expected more than motel type stays on retail parks, which we had on some nights, which were frustratingly close to some of much better quality. In such places breakfasts were of a similar ( cardboard ) standard and there wasn't alwys somewhere to sit and eat. This didn't fit with our previous Exodus experiences of supporting local business / tourism either. However when they got it right and we did stay in locally managed places they were very good.
Picnic lunches provided whilst we were riding were well planned and of excellent quality - great use of local resources, but didn't think to provide drinks.
Bike quality was ok, but if we hadn't had the discount of free bike hire from booking early would have been a different matter. Support when we had puncture was delayed - not given spare tubes till day 2 and tyre levers till day 3 - in meantime some of group wasted a lot of time wating for rescue. Bikes not consistently maintained or even properly built each day - expecting the wheels to be locked is pretty basic requirement.
We were conscious this was the first time this trip had operated and have tried to take that into account in making these comments, but as a fellow traveller said - we didn't pay to be guinea pigs. Would suggest Exodus consider these points before further trips take place as it could easily be improved for others.
