Fly London to Ljubljana; private bus transfer to the pretty lakeside resort of Bohinj. Free time to explore Slovenia's largest lake and the Savica waterfall.
Today will be a gentle start to the week giving us a chance to warm up our cycling legs and make any necessary adjustments to our bikes. We will ride a circular route around the picturesque Lake Bohinj and then take a gravel road all the way to Bled, Slovenia's best known lake, famous for its island and pretty church. Depending on the group's level, there may be the option to take the more challenging route across the Pokljuka plateau. On arrival in Bled you can treated yourself to one of the regions famous cream cakes - you'll have earned it!
We start our day in Bled, cycling through the beautiful landscape of the Gorenjska region following the green Sava Bohinjka river all the way to its source. Our day cycling finishes in the pretty alpine town of Kranjska Gora near the border with Austria and Italy. The town is famous for its winter sports and hosts a leg of Alpine skiing World Cup every year.
Today is our most challenging day, both in terms of KM's covered (60), climb and terrain, taking the Vrsic Pass at a height of 1611m above sea level. However there will be plenty of stops along the way to enjoy Lake Jasna, a Russia chapel dating from World War I, and stunning views of the Soca Valley. The end of the day it's downhill all the way to town of Bovec, on the decent we'll get our first sight of the brilliantly clear Soca river.
Free day to explore Bovec and the Soca River. For clients wishing to cycle our guide with give you some route options. For those wanting to take the water, canoeing and rafting are available at an additional cost. Alternatively you may want to relax at the hotel pool and wellness centre.
Today we're back in the saddle for another day of challenging cycling. Climbing over Mount Stol (1100m), this is another tough climb, but there will be plenty of stops. The ride down the other side of the mountain is an exhilarating decent down winding gravel roads all the way to the small town of Kobarid where we stay the night. On route there will be the opportunity to swim in the Nadiza river, famous for its warm waters, pools and gorges.
Ride from Kobarid through the Tolmin and Tolminka Gorges. From here there will be an optional walking trip down into the gorge, famous for its geothermal pools, milky green and blue waters and narrow rock faces layered in moss. We then cycle on across the Polog valley to the source of the Tolmionka river, finishing our day in a cosy local pension.
Relaxing morning, before transfer back to Ljubljana Airport.
