Discover the beauty of the Tatra Mountains on this challenging ride through the highland region

The Tatra Mountain range forms a natural border between Slovakia and Poland, with an accessible alpine landscape which makes for a rewarding route. The mountains have gained their distinctive shape from heavy glaciation, creating a dramatic panorama with numerous mountain lakes and alpine cliffs. Our cycling begins in the mountain village of Zuberec, sandwiched between the massifs of the Western and Low Tatras. From here we ride through a peaceful forest to the thermal springs at Oravice.
The journey continues across the border into Poland, inhabited by the Goral mountain folk. With a rich history dating as far back as the 14th century, they have developed a language which is a mixture of Slovakian and Polish. Close to the border we pass through typical Goral villages with ornately decorated wooden houses. The most challenging cycling comes between the mountain resort of Zakopane and Zdiar as we cross the border back into Slovakia and climb up towards the High Tatras. Our efforts are rewarded by relaxing in the thermal pools of Poprad and exploring the stunning Polish city of Krakow. There's a huge number of famous sites worth visiting here, including the old city, Mariacki Church, central Market Square and the Wawel Castle.
