Frequently Asked Questions
About Your Trip
Some days look quite long. Do we need to be experienced cyclists?
No. The leader carefully breaks up the distances covered with refreshment stops and lunch. The terrain will vary but clients are always free to hop on the support vehicle that shadows the whole group, if they feel like a break. Saying that, you do cover more ground than you think, especially with a tailwind behind you!

Can you always guarantee a bike available to hire locally?
‘In-country’ bike hire should be arranged at the time of booking, and the cost will be added to your invoice. Please note that there are a limited number of bikes available locally. We always have to match a person's height to the bike frame size and, as there are a limited amount of each size, we cannot always guarantee availability of the correct frame. Therefore it is recommended you add the local bike hire as early as possible.

Any local produce I should try while in Sardinia?
Lots! There are some delicious local honey and cheeses. Also keep an eye out for small cakes made of almonds, bottarga (fish eggs), mirto (local liqueur) and salsiccia (sausage). At dinner, you should try Fregola con arselle (home made pasta with clams), culurgiones (cheese and mint ravioli), porcedduand of course the local fresh fish!
What else? Porceddu (suckling pig), spaghetti alla bottarga (spaghetti with grey mullet eggs), culurjonis (rectangular type of Ravioli with a variety of fillings and sauces) and Sabadas al Miele (pastry fill with cheese and covered in honey).
In terms of drinks, Mirto (liquore made out of Mirto berries), Filu Feru (firewater will help you digest anything) and Cannonau Doc Vigna di Isalle (excellent smooth local red wine, just watch out, taste light but has 14% alcohol!).

Can I bring my own saddle and pedals?
Yes. All the bikes are adaptable to be fitted with personalised bike parts. The support team accompanying the group will be able help with any bike alterations or damage to the bike along the entire trip.

Synthetic, cotton or merino wool tops will be perfect for cycling , especially when it's hot . Shorts (could be padded) will also be great as it will almost certainly be too hot for cycling in trousers. Stiff sole shoes are in general better for cycling but you could also go for sandals. A lightweight windbreaker (or water-resistant/proof top) may come handy in the unlikely event of a spell of bad weather ; however, in case of rain you may well go for being wet because of the rain rather than because of your own sweat under a jacket.

Any good local bars or restuarants I should try in Sardinia?
In Dorgali - the Blues Bar is a good alternative to the hotel bar and also doubles as an internet cafe. The Cafe La Plaza serves a decently priced selection of pasta dishes, salads, and main courses, and also has an impressive selection of flavoured teas and hot chocolates. You can also try the bar S'Udulu, which is slightly more upmarket and has slightly more expensive prices to go with it!.
In Cala Gonone - The Cala Luna Hotel Bar has wonderful and comfortable terrace overlooking the sea with a great selection of cocktails. The Sure Cru is a Cuban style bar/gelateria that offers ice cream, cocktails and some musical entertainment.
Finally, the La Favorita Hotel and Restaurant has excellent quality food and very good service - I highly recommend the crayfish spaghetti, expensive but worth it!
