A memorable ride contrasting a remote national park with one of the world's most famous coastlines
A memorable cycling week covering the best of Cilento National Park and the Amalfi Coast. The Cilento coast is fairly rocky territory, with the shoreline lapped by a crystal sea.
There is a wild kind of beauty here; rocky ridges set between small picturesque inlets and richly scented pinewoods backing onto wide sandy beaches. Aleppo pines loom over multicoloured undergrowth of myrtle and prickly pear; whilst huge, centuries old, olive trees grow right down to the shore.
Inland the Cilento is largely undisturbed by the 21st century and we cycle through quaint fishing villages where the traditional way of life is still very evident. There is a wild kind of beauty here from the dramatic coast to the rocky ridges towering above it and an abundance of flora, including Aleppo pines, myrtle, prickly pear and ancient olive groves.
As we leave the Cilento, we ride to the Greco-Roman city of Paestum with its well-preserved temples and amphitheatre, before heading to the stunning Amalfi Coast itself. This is arguably the most impressive stretch of coastline in the Mediterranean, with its precariously located hilltop villages, beautiful coastal towns and classic cycling routes.
In order to make the most of the area we spend two days riding here, visiting beautiful towns like Minori and Positano, but also exploring the peaceful hills inland with their spectacular sea views.
Having built up a good appetite, you'll find some of the finest Italian food, wine and café culture in Amalfi: the perfect mix for a spectacular week of cycling!
What makes this trip responsible?
Being on bikes, we can be quite versatile and are able to visit places that are not as easily accessible by other means of transport. We stay in locally owned hotels, so contributing directly to the local communities and our food on the trip is bought fresh at local stores and markets, helping to support the local economy and ensuring that our clients sample the local delicacies that Southern Italy has to offer.
