Southwest Greenland By Schooner Arctic Expedition Sailing

Discover the history, wildlife and stunning landscapes along the coast of Southwestern Greenland, aboard the schooner Rembrandt van Rjin.

Greenland or 'Kalaallit Nunaat' ('Land of the People') in the Greenlandic language, is the largest island in the world, stretching from 60 to 83 north latitude.

The coastline is perhaps the most spectacular - heavily indented with numerous fjords, high mountains, 200 metre (6500 feet) cliffs and innumerable glaciers producing cathedral-like icebergs.

Marine life is abundant supporting vast sea bird colonies, Fin, Minke and Humpback whales, as well as Narwhal, Beluga (White whale) and the rarer Blue, Sperm and Pilot whales.

What makes this trip responsible?

Exodus is an Associate Member of the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) and has agreed to abide by one of the tourism world's most conscientious codes of conduct. Our ship operators in Spitsbergen are also members of the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO), which covers operations in Spitsbergen.

However, perhaps the single most important thing any polar travel company can do, is educate their clients to travel sensitively and compassionately. Our expedition team on each ship takes this part of their role very seriously, and looks forward to explaining how everyone can play their part.

Hunde Eijland and Disko Bay.

Day 4

Sydbay and Isortoq.

Day 5

Visit Greenlandic village of Kangaamiut.

Day 6

Visit meteorite crater near Manitsoq.

Day 7

Visit Nuuk (Godthab), the capital of Greenland.

Day 8

Fiskenaes and Lichtenfels.

Day 9

Sail past Flade Isblink, looking for whales.

Day 10

Vist remains of a Croyolite mine at Ivittuut; sail into Ikat Fjord.

Day 11

Visit hot springs at Uunartoq; explore nearly deserted village of Lichtenau

Day 12

Zodiac excursions near the Qaleralik Sermia glacier; explore thule houses at Qoornooq

Day 13

Visit the Viking sites of Gardarand Brattahlid; to Narsarsuaq.

Day 14

Disembark and end Narsarsuaq.
