Map

Countries Visited: Antarctica, Argentina

Sail the same seas as on Shackleton's Endurance Expedition on the 95th anniversary of the sinking of the Endurance.

Penguins diving into the sea

Only one vessel can effectively navigate the Weddell Sea: the Kapitan Khlebnikov, a ship capable of going into the spectacular icy seascapes that others cannot, with huge rewards. The epitome of the Weddell Sea is massive tabular icebergs, and watching these glide silently past the ship is a remarkable experience. By zodiac, on foot and in the air, islands and continental shores are explored, whose residents are Chinstraps and Adelies in huge numbers. Leaving Antarctica behind, the journey continues to South Georgia, home to the most extraordinary ornithological phenomenon. The vast King Penguin rookeries are incomparable, and witnessing this marvel is an unforgettable experience. South Georgia also has a long and fascinating history, from Cook's first landing, through years of both whaling and sealing, and including Shackleton's remarkable feat during the Endurance Expedition.

Special Guest - Jonathan Shackleton
Jonathan Shackleton will be aboard when Khlebnikov sails the Shackleton triangle from Elephant Island to the Weddell Sea and South Georgia. He will bring a unique perspective to the story of the Heroes of HMS Endurance, as he is Sir Ernest Shackleton's cousin.

RT TripWhat makes this trip responsible?

Responsible Travel

We take extremely seriously our responsibility to minimise our impact on these pristine areas. Exodus is a Full Member of the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) and has agreed to abide by one of the tourism world's most conscientious codes of conduct. Quark Expeditions, our ship operator, is also a member of the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO), which covers operations in Spitzbergen.

However, perhaps the single most important thing any polar travel company can do, is educate their clients to travel sensitively and compassionately. Our expedition team on each ship takes this part of their role very seriously, and looks forward to explaining how everyone can play their part.
