Reality Check
This is not a demanding trip although it has been designed to attract the reasonably fit walker. However as all the walking is in the form of optional day hikes, it is ideally suited to those who may have differing walking abilities to others. Some of the day hikes allow walkers to 'do their own thing' so it is essential for participants to have a reasonable knowledge of the outdoors and to show a degree of common sense. The leader will suggest day hikes and will accompany those that participate in them. The leader will obviously also advise those that do not wish to participate on the other options available in that area.
Please note that due to federal laws in Denali, your tour leader can't hike with you. They will, however, prepare you for all available walks. The trails vary a great deal, in some of the more developed parks some of the trails are well defined, whilst in the most other areas there are no trails at all. Thus much of the hiking will be of the cross-country variety with no set 'destination'. The scenery is always spectacular, but you will often be forced to cross small streams and walk on tundra - good boots are a must. All the walking is at moderate or low altitudes and therefore should not cause any altitude related problems.
Road conditions are mostly very good. The road into the Wrangell Mountains is a dirt road; the road from Tangle Lakes to Denali is mostly gravel. All road travel is by private minibus.

Icons explained
The vast majority of Exodus adventures are adult group holidays. Groups are always small in size. We strongly believe that this adherence to small groups means a better experience for all; more time with your guide, less waiting around and a reduced impact on the communities and environments visited.
Each group is generally made up of like-minded travellers - with singles, couples and friends all joining in together.
All these trips are suitable for single travellers, but if you prefer to travel with clients booking individually, please
see our Solo Departures page.
In order to provide a more accurate grading system, where a trip falls between two grades we use an intermediate or split grade, for example Moderate/Challenging. Occasionally, there are optional activities available en route, in this case the optional grade is indicated in brackets, for example Grade Challenging (climb Tough+). Clearly, conditions may differ from region-to-region or month-to-month and as such the information given on these pages is designed to act as a guide only. In all cases you should refer to the respective holiday's Trip Notes for further details.
