What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The day spent bear viewing was fabulous.
What did you think of your group leader?
Ryan was always friendly and a very good cook.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Take a very good camera with a zoom lens for wildlife pictures.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
The trip is varied and Alaska is huge.  Thus the walking opportunities are limited - both by the weather and the amount of distances covered.  This is a wildlife and wilderness trip - not a hiking trip.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Glacier walking was amazing... the daredevil flight in the float plane... getting to the top of the Harding Ice Field hike... There is so much incredible scenery everywhere you look, it is difficult to pinpoint one place!
What did you think of your group leader?
We had an excellent chef to do the campfire cooking, which was fantastic. They had obviously done a lot of research on Alaska even though only one of them had actually been there before. As we were the first trip of the season there were a few organisational / timing problems from the Exodus itineracy but the guides sorted these and did everything they could to make sure that everyone completed all the activities they wanted to. Thank you!
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
With the trip notes as they are now, there is more hiking suggested on the itinerary, i.e. when you 'stop for a short hike' during a driving day. These tend to be just lunch stops or a short train (a mile at most) to a viewpoint. Take advantage of laundry when you get it, and collect quarters for the varying prices of showers and washing machines.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
The trip was fantastic, with such a range of activities... plenty of variation for a great holiday!

Alaska is a mind-blowingly huge state and this trip is a great way to get a flavour of all the wonders of its scenery, wildlife, people and history. Taking time to sit and drink in the sheer size of the place is well worth it - the word "awesome" is entirely appropriate.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Spending an entire day with a smile on my face as we walked on a glacier. Flying in a light aircraft over the glaciers in the Wrangell mountains. A wildlife cruise in the Kenai fjords where a pod of humpback whales decided to put on a wonderful display of leaping and flapping their fins in a joyous dance, sharing good beer and conversation with local people in McCarthy.
What did you think of your group leader?
Pete was excellent. This is a trip where you have a huge range of choices as to what you do and how active/relaxed you want to be. He managed to juggle all the different interests and needs of our group, making sure that we were well-informed and well-fed, driving long distances in between activities at times. His own love of Alaska and enthusiasm came across throughout.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Take every opportunity to do all the options which interest you; the sheer scale of the place is amazing. This is definitely not a "budget" option - things aren't cheap, so do make sure you've got a good supply of spending money and credit cards available. Veggies may find that the food options are a bit limited - most meals will normally contain large quantities of meat or fish.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Having had my original choice of trek cancelled (not very sensitively handled) and experienced some administrative slips with insurance my faith in Exodus' organisation has been tested. Thankfully, the knowledgeable and enthusiastic recommendation of the Alaskan Hike by Cat in the office was infectious and the trip itself was excellent.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Two aspects, the dramatic changes in scenery and the wildlife trip from Seaward.  On the way back we saw a whale flipping from side to side.  Awesome.

What did you think of your group leader?

He was a Trek Amercia trip leader so had only reached the dizzy heights of 30.  Was knowledgeable of the area and good fun.

Also a superb cook who left some of us feeling inadequate in the kitchen!

One of the trip had lost a bag and he did everything possible to help them.

One piece of advice, if you're particular about music, take your own along then negotiate for air time in the mini-bus!

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Jungle formula.  Don't leave home without it.  The national 'bird' of Alaska is vicious.  Binoculars for the wildlife cruise.
