A walking exploration of the nature and culture in Cuba's rural west
Pinar del Rio, the most western province of Cuba, is largely unvisited, and so provides us with a real opportunity to observe the uncommercial quality of this island. We visit the Sierra Rosario and the national parks, which are a paradise for bird watching, while our walks also teach us about tropical plants and their uses. We gain an insight into life on the small private farms and work in the plantations. Between the walks, we sample the beaches of Cayo Levisa, where we are free to relax or snorkel (optional) over a variety of live corals and tropical fish.
