A superb Tibetan trek through the Kharta and Karma valleys to the rarely-visited Kangshung Face of Everest

Potala Palace, Lhasa, Tibet

This trek provides one of the most unusual and interesting approaches to Everest. Beginning with a spectacular flight over Everest to Lhasa, we spend time acclimatising and sightseeing. We start trekking at Kharta, a small village on the Arun River close up against the great barrier of the Himalaya. Crossing the Shao La into the forested Karma Valley we trek to the base camp at Pethang Ringmo. From a high ridgepoint above camp we have stunning views of the Kangshung Face of Everest. We return to Kharta across the Langma La, with breath-taking views of Makalu, Kanchenjunga and Everest. We also have time to drive to Rongbuk for views of Everest's north face.
