Adult Group Holidays Challenging / Tough Walking & Trekking Wilderness

A superb Tibetan trek through the Kharta and Karma valleys

Shoa Tso Lake, on the Kharta Valley trek, Tibet

This trek provides one of the most unusual, interesting and least trekked approaches to Everest.

Our journey begins with a spectacular flight from Kathmandu across the Himalaya to Lhasa, where we have plenty of time to visit the main sights. Traversing high passes, crossing the stark but spectacular Tibetan plateau, with breathtaking views of some of the highest Himalayan peaks, the drive from Lhasa to New Tingri is one of the world's classic road journeys.

Crossing the Pang La through some of the most amazing scenery to be found anywhere in the world, we have magnificent panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu.

Our trek begins in the Kharta Valley which, unlike the desolate north side of Everest, is filled with lush green forests and alpine meadows. Crossing the Shao La, we enter the Karma Valley, whose spectacular altitude forests are amongst the highest in the world.

During our trek, we are rewarded by stunning views of the peaks of Chomolonzo, Makalu and finally, the magnificent Kangshung Face of Everest.

This incredibly steep east face of Everest is rarely seen by trekkers and even more rarely climbed; it is the most difficult and dangerous route to the top of the world.

What makes this trip responsible?

This trip employs local leaders and staff through all aspects of the trip whenever possible.  To be using local leaders in Tibet is a very important factor of this trip that ensures that Tibet benefits as much as possible from our tourism. We use predominantly locally owned and run accommodation on this trip which benefits the local community.
A portion of this tour is spent camping which reduces our energy consumption for the whole trip. Furthermore, whilst camping, the leaders ensure that we minimise impact as much as possible by such things as clearing up camping areas after use.

Adventure Pioneers - This trip gets our vote!

Adventure PioneersEach year we run a competition that challenges you to design a trip for our Adventure Pioneers range. Out of the entries received we choose the most inspiring, sustainable and appealing to launch as an Exodus trip. They are pioneering. They are different. They are the very best of Exodus Travels. This trip breaks the mould and extends the boundaries of adventure travel.
