An inspiring trip made absolutely amazing by the group that were on the holiday! Stunning scenery, great walks and a guide that knew the people and the area incredibly well!
- What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
A bit of a vertigo sufferer, actually challenging myself to go with the group and the guide around the crater rim at Vesuvius. With only a limited number of permits to go to this area, it felt very special!
Pompeii was breathtaking; once again, the knowledgable guide gave us access to areas not normally frequented. His knowledge brought the city alive, almost to the point you could hear the chariots thundering through the streets.
Let's not forget the walking; the views simply stunning. The cameraderie amongst the group inspiring. Enough of a challenge for a leisurely first walking holiday or for recharging the batteries!
- What did you think of your group leader?
- The group leader was knowledgable about the area, the walks and the language! She kept us fully informed of what to expect, sometimes telling the group bit by bit so as not to demoralise! She was hilariously funny too and became very much a part of the holiday group!
- Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
This is a relaxing holiday and the walks, although there are a few steep sections, are not long. It came as a bit of a surprise to me that the furthest we ever went was about 12 km. So, believe the grading when it says leisurely, which I have to say, I probably didn't. I went in August and it was unbelievably hot but walking in the high mountains made it bearable. Several days finished on the beach which was very welcome! Pack a light weight travel towel especially for those days.
On our free day, we travelled to Capri which was interesting but unbearably crowded in August! Go early if you want to go.
- Is there anything else you would like to add?
The only niggle any of us had was that our flight came in late in the evening so that we arrived at the hotel at 1.30 ish and we left for the airport to go home at 4.30 in the morning (or about then). Overall, the holiday was a most liberating experience, the first holiday I have taken without family or friends in tow! The moment I sat down on the plane I met a fellow traveller and it began a hilarious and empowering week. 16 like minded people doing something together was a simply stunning experience. I hope this doesn't sound too much like an advert in some cheesy magazine, but the real fact is, I made some great new friends with whom I am in regular contact!
