Had a great holiday although got sore legs!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

I really enjoyed the trip to Pompei and Vesuvius.

I felt that I had achieved something by going on this holiday as I had never been away alone before.  I was proud of myself for managing all the walks despite having quite sore legs after two or three of them.

What did you think of your group leader?

Albert was great and allowed time for everyone to catch up and have a rest before moving on again.  He was very helpful with regards to buying bus tickets etc and on one occasion organising mini bus transport when we missed a bus connection due to a delay in the ferry sailing.  His briefings the night before each walk were very useful as were the 'debriefings' from that day's walk.  Overall very friendly and knowledgeable about the area.

All in all a great group leader.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Do not forget to pack your walking poles - they were very necessary especially for the downhill sections.  I found the downhills quite difficult especially the days when we had to go down a LOT of steps into towns.

Don't forget to pack 'bug spray'.  Quite a few of us were bitten on arms and legs.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Overall a great trip - spectacular scenery, a great group leader, the staff of the hotel were great as was the food, but the best bit by far for me were my fellow walkers.  I had never been on holiday alone before and was a bit apprehensive beforehand but need not have worried as everyone was so nice and friendly. We all got on very well together.

The whole trip was very well organised and there were no problems at all.

I would have absolutely no hesitation in going on a similar holiday in the future or in recommending it to others.

You don't have to be an hardened fell walker to enjoy this holiday but a general level of fitness helps as four of the days involve up to six hours of walking. However, the walks are fantastic with ever changing views and taken at a steady pace in the hands of a knowledgeable and supportive group leader. There's plenty of time also to relax by the sea and visit Pompeii, Vesuvius and other local attractions.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Lots of memories (I've been back from the trip for over a month now), particularly the coastal walks and the great group social interaction. The hotel is really good and because Exodus is a valued customer, we get to spend time in the kitchen learning how to cook local food. For me though, the most inspirational moment of the trip was when we circumnavigated the crater of Vesuvius and came to understand the sheer transformational power of the great eruption of 79 AD. This provided us with a unique window into Roman life in Pompeii and Herculaneum as well as significantly altering the physical geography of the region. Of course, there was also the stunning view over the Bay of Naples.
What did you think of your group leader?
The group leader - in this case it was Barbara was extremely knowledgeable and supportive. She ensured that the walks were carried out at a pace that was comfortable for all members of the group. She lives locally and therefore could answer most questions from the point of view of her experience and obvious love for the region.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Its hot in August so come prepared if you visit at this time and ensure you are well hydrated. The village is 700m above sea level and most walks start here, so be prepared for long descents. I would advise that walking poles help take the strain off of your knees. You have a free day to yourself and there's lots of places to visit although at popular times of the year I'd advise against visiting Capri as you will spend a lot of the time trying to escape the port and the huge crowds of day trippers (and the high prices). The visit to Pompeii is a good introduction to the site but you might want to return and add Herculaneum if you are keen to take in more of this vast site.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
In summary - great holiday if you enjoy a steady walk and views to die for. The food is wonderful and the hotel staff are extremely hospitable. The village provides you with a view of local rural Italian life. Lastly, the buses! The route back from Amalfi is taken by bus along winding, cliff hugging roads that snake up the mountain for 40 minutes before you reach the village. Again, the views are stunning and the traffic jams resulting from some narrow stretches of road provide moments of entertainment as motorists attempt to pass in the tightest of squeezes. Enjoy it!

An inspiring trip made absolutely amazing by the group that were on the holiday!  Stunning scenery, great walks and a guide that knew the people and the area incredibly well!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

A bit of a vertigo sufferer, actually  challenging myself to go with the group and the guide around the crater rim at Vesuvius.   With only a limited number of permits to go to this area, it felt very special!

Pompeii was breathtaking; once again, the knowledgable guide gave us access to areas not normally frequented.  His knowledge brought the city alive, almost to the point you could hear the chariots thundering through the streets.

Let's not forget the walking; the views simply stunning.  The cameraderie amongst the group inspiring.  Enough of a challenge for a leisurely first walking holiday or for recharging the batteries!

What did you think of your group leader?
The group leader was knowledgable about the area, the walks and the language!  She kept us fully informed of what to expect, sometimes telling the group bit by bit so as not to demoralise!  She was hilariously funny too and became very much a part of the holiday group!

This is a relaxing holiday and the walks, although there are a few steep sections, are not long.   It came as a bit of a surprise to me that the furthest we ever went was about 12 km.  So, believe the grading when it says leisurely, which I have to say, I probably didn't.  I went in August and it was unbelievably hot but walking in the high mountains made it bearable.  Several days finished on the beach which was very welcome!  Pack a light weight travel towel especially for those days.

On our free day, we travelled to Capri which was interesting but unbearably crowded in August!  Go early if you want to go.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The only niggle any of us had was that our flight came in late in the evening so that we arrived at the hotel at 1.30 ish and we left for the airport to go home at 4.30 in the morning (or about then).  Overall, the holiday was a most liberating experience, the first holiday I have taken without family or friends in tow!  The moment I sat down on the plane I met a fellow traveller and it began a hilarious and empowering week.  16 like minded people doing something together was a simply stunning experience.  I hope this doesn't sound too much like an advert in some cheesy magazine, but the real fact is, I made some great new friends with whom I am in regular contact!

I was a little concerned that this holiday would be too leisurely, as I have previously enjoyed Exodus trips graded C and D. I am pleased to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the Amalfi Coast walks, each lasted about 5 hours and the scenery is spectacular.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
I can't say that I experienced an inspirational moment. However everyday was excellent and trips to Pompeii, Vesuvius, Herculaneum and Positano have all left lasting memories.
What did you think of your group leader?
Morten was absolutely excellent and the whole group liked him. I have travelled with Exodus on four occasions and the leader on each trip has been of this very high standard.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
I travelled with my wife on this trip, but many of the group were travelling alone. This is very often the case on such holidays and I would recommend Exodus to anybody considering travelling alone for the first time. All of the people I have walked with on these trips have been good company and easy to get along with.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
The Hotel Le Due Torri is clean, friendly, comfortable and the food was very good.

I'd heard wonderful reports from friends who had previously visited the Amalfi Coast, but this holiday surpassed them all!  Wonderful group of people, excellent leader and a fantastic hotel - what more could you want?!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The walk around the rim of the crater at Vesuvius.  The views across to the Bay of Naples were breathtaking and, as this walk was off the official tourist route and required a special guide, we felt we had gained so much more from our trip than the average visitor!

The walk to Amalfi through the Nature Reserve was breathtaking.  The natural beauty of the reserve had to be seen to be believed and the views on the descent into Amalfi were stunning.

Positano - lovely town with loads of charm.

The other people on the holiday - wonderful mix of ages and lifestyles from the UK, USA, Canada and Australia.  There was so much laughter and good humour throughout the whole week that I truly regretted having to go home!

What did you think of your group leader?
Excellent.  Albert was helpful and knowledgeable about the area and the local wildlife and fauna.  He suited the walks to everyone's pace and made sure that everyone enjoyed themselves.  He also ensured that we had plenty of information to enjoy ourselves on our day off - which we all spent on Capri!
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
The hotel and staff are helpful and very friendly.  The rooms are well laid out and very comfortable.  The cooking lessons in the hotel kitchen were great fun and added to the evening entertainment.  It's an excellent all round holiday - plenty of walking, but lots of time to fit in sight seeing and even several hours lazing on the beaches at Amalfi and Positano.  I went in June and the temperature was around 30 deg., so I would perhaps avoid going in July or August as it would be hard work doing the walks in higher temperatures.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Book it now !!  You won't regret it.
