Reality Check
The Central Pyrenees holiday involves a series of five day walks from our comfortable hotel in Ax les Thermes. The walks are varied and to some extent we can tailor each day to the needs and wishes of the group and the prevailing conditions. The proximity to the larger peaks means that while the walking is not too demanding, we are always close to impressive views. Of course, if on any day, you do not wish to go walking, you can relax at the hotel, or enjoy the town or gentle walks nearer to home. During the week there will be one free day where no walk is provided and the leader will suggest optional activities. Please note that a good level of fitness is required for this trip.

Average height gain: 500 - 800 metres. Hours walked: 4-5 hours on average. Distances: 8-13 kilometres.

An average day's walking is the equivalent of a round trip to a Lake District summit. More specifically, you should expect the following:
Mixed terrain: Some quality trails, some rocky, a small amount of easy cross-country (no path).
Altitude gain: between 600-1000m (2000-3300 feet) ascent on most days. Plenty of up and down, very little flat!
Hours walked: usually around 5 to 6 hours walking, plus 1 hour for lunch, and at least an hour for other stops.
Distance walked: 8-15 kilometres, average about 11kms (8 miles).

Min. 6, max. 16, plus leader. Minimum age 16.
Responsible Travel
Rail Travel throughout Europe has never been easier and with the added benefit of reducing your carbon footprint it is a great way to reach the start point of your Exodus holiday. Ax-les-Thermes in particular has superb rail links. Daily trains take you direct from Paris to your hotel door in comfort and with ease, avoiding the need to travel to an airport and wait for checked-in luggage. We strongly believe that this adherence to small groups means a better experience for all; more time with your guide, less waiting around and a reduced impact on the communities and environments visited.
