Itinerary
Day 1
Fly to Catania and short transfer to our hotel in Catania's city centre (approx. 20 mins). In the afternoon we have time to visit this beautiful city, awarded the UNESCO World Heritage status in 2002 for its impressive lava-built Baroque buildings.
Day 2
Private transfer to the northern side of Mt Etna at 1900m of altitude. Today we start discovering the smoking giant and its ever-changing landscape. We walk across lush pine forest, discovering different lava flows and craters, including the fractures of 2002 eruption. We will reach our comfortable mountain hut located at 1741m of altitude, from where we can enjoy a wonderful view of Taormina and the eastern coast of Sicily. (10km, 5h, +300m, -400m)
Day 3
Today we enjoy a spectacular walk on the eastern area of the Mount Etna volcano, with its lunar landscape. After walking through a lava tunnel, we hike up to the rim of Valle del Bove (The Ox's Valley), an extensive depression that opened up on the eastern side of the mountain thousands of years ago as a result of a massive landslide. Here we are rewarded with inspirational views of Sicily's entire coastline and of the four craters that make up the top of Mt Etna. (10km, 5h, +500, -500m).
