An introduction to trekking in the Ladakh Himalaya
Sandwiched between the western Himalaya, the Karakorum and the Tibetan Plateau, lies the high altitude desert of Ladakh, or 'Little Tibet'. Our trip starts with a spectacular flight over the Himalaya to Leh, and exploration of the town and some of the most important monasteries along the Indus Valley. We then drive westwards, following the Indus River to the start of our trek at Likir. This short introduction to trekking in Ladakh takes us from village to village through a spectacular multi-coloured landscape. The walking is fairly gentle with plenty of time to enjoy the views. We finish the trek near Lamayuru with its moonscape scenery, before visiting Alchi, the oldest monastery in Ladakh.
