THE FROZEN ZANSKAR
16 days at GBP2,060 including flights
Tripcode: TGZ
A challenging winter trek through stark but beautiful Ladakh and Zanskar - led by Himalayan expert Valerie Parkinson
In winter the Zanskar River freezes and is called the Chaddar 'white blanket'. For the hardy Zanskaris a trek along the river is their only access to the outside world. In 2008 we ran our first successful expedition here and were the largest British group ever to trek the Chaddar. Flying over the snow-covered Himalaya to Leh, this amazing winter expedition starts from Chiling. We follow the icy gorge through a wild, frozen landscape. We spend the days passing towering ice peaks and frozen waterfalls - the scenery is truly spectacular. The nights are spent camping by caves along the way. Our goal is the isolated village of Lingshed, where we spend a day meeting the locals and visiting the monastery before heading back to the relative comforts of Leh.
