Reality Check
Trekking the Kokoda Track is physically demanding. The 96km track is a narrow, uneven, muddy path with numerous steep inclines and declines.
The climate is hot and humid and a high level of fitness is required. We recommend that all trekkers consult their medical practitioner to undergo an exercise stress test and have undergone a training exercise program prior to joining this trek. See our special health requirements section.
We provide a local English speaking tour guide throughout the entire journey as well as a personal porter to carry your luggage.
During our trip we will see tribal dancing, stunning volcanic features and a range of plant, animal and bird life that will inspire you to learn more about the natural history of Papua New Guinea. In addition to all this there is the reward of interaction in a small group of people working together for a common purpose and the individual satisfaction of mastering the physical difficulties of the track.
Whilst this trip does have its physical elements we do break the trip up so that you can take the time to enjoy the culture and the people. The first few days are hard going but we build in rest time at Menari and Myola where you can enjoy exploring, sleeping, reading, trout fishing, bird watching or viewing war ruins.
The last days at Kokoda is spent relaxing and being entertained by the local people. For people wanting to travel on our ANZAC DAY departure - 15 April.
Dawn service is on departure day April 25th. Please don't book onward travel until after 1300hrs on the final day.
Normal group size and age
Normally 6 to 15 plus local leader and appropriate local staff. Minimum age 18.

The vast majority of Exodus adventures are adult group holidays. Groups are always small in size. We strongly believe that this adherence to small groups means a better experience for all; more time with your guide, less waiting around and a reduced impact on the communities and environments visited.
Each group is generally made up of like-minded travellers - with singles, couples and friends all joining in together.
All these trips are suitable for single travellers, but if you prefer to travel with clients booking individually, please
see our Solo Departures page.
Fitness is important and you may have to improve yours before departure. Most treks at this grade compare to extended walking in mountainous terrain such as the Lakes of Snowdonia, but usually at significantly higher altitudes; climate and remoteness can also play a part. Previous trekking experience is desirable, but not vital if you are confident of your physical condition.
Exodus is always looking to improve our current itineraries and to offer something different. With many new trips this year, there is something unique and different to try every year.
Walking & Trekking: Trips are wholly trekking-focused or simply include a significant number of walking days during the itinerary.
Culture: Let Exodus show you a different side to many of the world's greatest cultural attractions.
