Daywalks from a peaceful gite in the beautiful Atlas Mountains

This part of romantic Morocco is the ideal place for trekking the Atlas Mountains! Hidden deep in the High Atlas Mountains are the crumbling remains of the great fortress-palace of Telouet, which we visit before reaching the picturesque Tijhza Valley. After a truly stunning drive over the impressive Tizi-n-Tichka pass (2260m), we arrive at the lush and remote village of Tijhza. Staying in a simple but pleasant gite, we enjoy optional walks each day from the front door. The pace is relaxed, allowing us to enjoy this Morocco walking holiday, and we learn a little about the way of life of these hardy and friendly Berber people. Finally, there's time in Marrakech to explore the busy souks or relax in the tranquil Majorelle Gardens - the perfect end to any North African experience.
What makes this trip responsible?
Morocco project - Tijhza Village Project, Morocco
Whilst staying at the gite in the mountains there is the opportunity to meet the villagers and learn what Exodus has achieved over ten years of supporting the village as one of our Responsible Tourism projects. We have supplied a water pipeline system to the village and a toilet block for the school and are keen to continue with much-needed improvements for the people of the village. We have almost achieved our 2011 aim of building a Hammam to help with hygiene issues in the village and provide a self-sustainable income for many of the inhabitants.
You can help by donating money via Friends of Conservation (see our website) or by bringing some items with you (please see our project page on our website for advice on what to bring). Please ensure that anything you bring is not passed directly to the children. If you really want to get involved with this project then contact our groups department for further information on our special volunteer departures.
