A truly fabulous trek, full of variety!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Often just the simplest things:  sitting under a shady tree at the end of a hot day; washing in a stream - and of course the wonderful views...
What did you think of your group leader?
Funny and charming - even in his fourth language
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Give it a go - you won't regret it
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Definitely one of my top three!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Seeing Berber Life and travelling in mountains that were new to me

What did you think of your group leader?

A friendly guy who was happy to discuss the lifstyles in the mountains.  He looked after us well and generally the tour was well organised.

One aspect that could have been an improvement in leading would have been to have asked someone each day/leg to backmark.  I have always done this when leading trips and it helps when trying to keep the party togther and ensuring everyone is OK.  A monir point perhaps, but potentially important.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Always take a ball of strong string - it can be used for many things; washing line, replacement shoe laces, belts, to tie together failing equipment (including crampons on one occasion).

Don't take anything non-essential, even after 30+ years of travelling in remote areas I still review what I took and find odd things to discard and new things from seeing what others have taken for next time.

For this trip particularly, and others in hot areas, take plenty of anti-bacterial wash/wipes!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

There are three points I would like to make about this trip:

1 - a hotel nearer to Marrakesh centre would have been good for sightseeing

2 - the guide in Marrakesh was poor: we did not get much in the way of local insights from him and a significant part of the trip was in a "pharmacy" which was largely a retail opportunity which we could have done alone.

3 - food on the trek was adequate, but a little more meat would have helped to vary the diet.  We had tinned sardines, what's wrong with corned beef!  Compared to my trip to Nepal last October I thought the menu was poor.

What did you think of your group leader?
Hassan was the perrfect elader, gave you space if you wanted it, but was chatty too, funny, kind, looked after us, tailored the trip to suit us. Best leader I ever had!
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
good boots, good socks, good legs, but only to make it all the more pleasant. Think about temperature of time of year too. My trip in mid-June was perfect though i feared it would be too hot for me.
Is there anything else you would like to add?

The great benefit of this trip is that if you only can have two weeks off work, Morrocco is a short flight, same time zone 9practically) as England (if that's where you're startong out from!) and so you can have two ful weeks in an interesting and completely different country without jet lag or days of travel!

  • I'll never forget the views from some of the "camp sites"

What did you think of your group leader?
Hassan was brilliant - I couldn't have wished for better.  He was extremely knowledgable, helpful and friendly.  He also ensured that the trip ran very smoothly.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Toilet paper is essential as it cannot be purchased when camping except towards the end of the two weeks.
Is there anything else you would like to add?

Abandon the city tour.  The guide was hopeless - we saw and learned more from the open top bus tour.  He was also arrogant and unfriendly - a complete contrast from the Berbers.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Refreshing ourselves under the waterfall at Setti Fatma... a beautifu spot, and the cool water was extremely welcome on a hot day in August!
What did you think of your group leader?
Mohammed was brilliant - the best guide we've had on any trek so far.  Very genuine, dedicated and hard working guy.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
If travelling during Ramadan (as we did), prepare to be woken up by mosque announcements when staying in / around villages
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Exodus should consider starting the trek a day later - we arrived at our Hotel in Marrakech around 1am, only to be leaving for the trek 8 hours later.  This didn't leave much slack in the timetabling.
