A magical trip that takes you high into the Himalayas, culminating with awe-inspiring views of the world's highest mountain. An unmissable journey for mountain-lovers!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The final day's treking into Everest Base Camp was, for me, the best part. Our intinerary had to be modified due to China's summit bid with the Olympic torch. This meant that we had to reverse the Kala Patar / Base Camp days. Although this made the trip to Base Camp more arduous, it was for me the main interest. Having read several books by people who have climbed Everest, I was longing to see first-hand some of the key features: base camp, the Khumbu ice fall, and of course the summit of Everest as close as possible. It did not disappoint!
What did you think of your group leader?
Our group leader, Lakpa, was great. He was good fun and well organised. He was also good with those people who got sick with the altitude, which was so important, as well as those who needed extra support on each day of the trek.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Think about the water you will need to drink each day in advance of your trip. We were advised to drink 4-5 litres/day. On one or two days I drank 6 litres! It is very important for your acclimatisation. Our group drank its way through approx 830+ litre bottles of water on the trek. It would be much better ecologically if you could purify your own water using tablets. None of the bottles we used looked as if they would be recycled.

Otherwise, get fit before you go and you will enjoy the trip so much more. Pack lots of throat lozenges and cough medicine ... you will need them! (the air is dry and the trail is dusty).

Is there anything else you would like to add?
A truly memorable experience. My holiday highlight of recent years, and a mountain-lovers dream trip!

It was a amazing once in a lifetime trip....

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Reaching the summit of Kala Pattar although the whole trip was full of inspirational moments.  The vastness of the Himalayas is incredible but difficult to explain.  You need to see it to believe.

What did you think of your group leader?
The group leader was very good, helpful and friendly.  In fact the whole team were.  Full credit to them!
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

The base camp and Kala Pattar days are very long so make sure you get enough sleep and have enough energy to carry you through these days.

Try to drink a lot of water in the morning time so you have drunk your daily amount of water early so you get a chance to flush it through your system before you go to bed and therefore avoid waking up during the night to go to the toilet.   Don't overpack your exodus bag as it is very stressful finding creative ways to get it shut every morning!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I thought it was a great group of people that I shared the experience with.

As we went during January/Febuary we missed crowds of tourists, which isn't a bad thing, but we did get the cold weather and I felt more could be done to heat the lodges when we arrived instead of waiting until evening.  I thought this could have been a lot to do with most people in the group suffering from altitude sickness.  I also felt that had we spent a day less in Kathmandu we would have had an extra day to get to base camp, as due to high winds we were unable to,  as this was the main reason for the trek we found it very disappointing.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Climbing Kala Pattar, but base camp would have been a close second had we made it.
What did you think of your group leader?
He was first class. Always there for every member of the group. A mine of information on anything he was asked. Always concerned with our welfare. Considering the headaches we must have given him, he was never without a smile. I couldn't fault him.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Don't forget a torch as I did. The headtorches are invaluble for reading in some of the badly lit lodges. Don't over fill your blue bag ,as I did, you have to pack them each morning in about 10mins flat.
Is there anything else you would like to add?

I wouldn't have missed this trip for the world, probably the hardest thing I have ever done, mainly due to the lack of oxygen, and I will never do it again.    The trip was improved by a good group, all nice people and a pleasure to be with.  But thats the chance you will have to take on your own trek.

It was a great trip, well organised as usual by Exodus.  Weather was kind despite travelling in December, it could have been a lot colder!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Seeing Everest for the first time from the plane to Lukla was very exciting, as was standing at Base Camp and looking at the ice fall.  Before Lobuche hut, there is a flat area of memorials to deceased climbers, this is very moving.
What did you think of your group leader?
Gum was good, he did his best with a group with different abilities and walking speeds.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Take something to cover your nose and mouth in Kathmandu (or buy there). Also necessary on the trek.  I left Kathmandu with a respiratory system in pieces although I never have problems at home.  The less time spent in Kathmandu the better.

You can charge your camera batteries at practically every lodge.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The organised sightseeing should have included the monkey temple instead of Durbar square and the temple of the living goddess; both these sights and relatively uninteresting in comparison.

Compared to the Exodus Hotel I stayed in in Delhi, the Royal Singhi is not up to the mark.  It's OK, but could have been better.

A real adventure with the best views in the world.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

I liked the flight to Lukla - we got our first view of Everest from the plane, and the view through the cockpit window coming into land at Lukla was an experience - if you're a nervous flyer you should keep your eyes closed!

We had great views every day (clear blue skies every day except one helped!) - I thought Ama Dablam was the most beautiful mountain. As we got higher, the scenery got more and more spectacular.

What did you think of your group leader?

Pasang was an excellent leader - we were very well looked after. He got the whole group just about all the way to Everest Base Camp (for 3 of us just getting close enough to see it that afternoon was enough!) & had lots of advice on how to acclimatise to the altitude (I just needed to walk slow, drink loads of water & keep my head warm!). He was really professional as well as being a really nice person & had lots of interesting stories.

Our other 4 guides were also excellent & so were our yak men. We were so well looked after all day every day - from tea brought to our rooms each morning through to the hot water bottle for our sleeping bags at night. All our guides were great dancers on the last night too!

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Take a warm sleeping bag & plenty of warm clothes - it was really cold at night (we went in late Nov / December) - we slept with the toothpaste in our sleeping bags so it wasn't frozen in the morning. It also helped to keep the camera in the sleeping bag overnight to help save the battery! But it was a really good time to go despite the cold as the weather was spectacular and the lodges were not so busy.

Take a good water bottle - you don't need to buy bottled water on the trek - it's a lot cheaper to buy boiled water - but it is hot when you get it! I had a platypus but the hose kept freezing up during the high days. The food was really good - lots of great soups.

I didn't find the walking too difficult - and I'm normally always well out the back. Nice relaxed pace the first few days, plenty of long stops for tea and lunch. Then further up it gets harder as the altitude kicks in, but just go really slow and you get there in the end!

Drink loads during the day (plenty of opportunities to stop for pots of lemon tea) but go easy on the fluids in the evening - there is no way you are going to want to get out of your warm sleeping bag in the night & visit the toilet with the floor covered in ice!

Take plenty of strepsils & tissues with you - altitude & the dust make you really snotty!

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Go on this trip! It really was a trip of a lifetime - thanks everyone.

The guide and his team were fantastic, with great experience but also a very positive attitudes.  I think the group also made the experience as everyone was of a suitable fitness level for the trip.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Unfortunately our guide Sukman got hit by a rockfall, however, although it was a severe break and an open wound which must have caused him alot of pain, he still joined us for supper and tried to order the team around. As usual he had a smile on his face and was still smiling whilst waiting for the helicopter the following morning. Most would complain having had to wait a couple of hours to be seen at A&E in the UK, not 16 hours before even being taken to hospital!
What did you think of your group leader?
Gum has obviously a great deal of experience, but also seems to really enjoy his job, which comes across in his enthusiasm even though he obviously does the trips regularly.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Be prepared to impersonate "Bambi" on the frozen floors in the toilets!! Ensure you are fit enough. Take some handcream and a plenty of sun block!!  LISTEN to the advice given by the guides.
Is there anything else you would like to add?

Amazing trip and country, all of the trip was very well organised considering you should always expect the unexpected. Teahouses remarkably good especially the cuisine.

A brilliant trip well organised with very good staff, the trek was superb, very hard at times but well worth the effort, don't forget spare batteries for the camera, there are so many photo opportunities.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
So many, reaching Base Camp is definately one of them, but seeing the memorials at the top of the terminal morraine of the glacier and at various points on the trek, it really brings it home to you that the mountains all around you can take life as well as inspire it.
What did you think of your group leader?
Excellent, very organised and very in tune with the clients and mindful of their needs, cannot speak highly enough of Pasang his Sirdar and Assistant Guides who were also excellent.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Train before you go, drink plently of liquids when you're out there and most of all enjoy it and never say that you cannot do it, because you can if you have the right frame of mind.
