Reality Check
This is a Grade E trek, with 16 days point-to-point walking, a maximum altitude of 6,059m, and an average of 3600m.
This is a strenuous and tough trip, and we recommend that you have done plenty of walking at altitude and take regular exercise.
The first part of the trek follows the classic Annapurna Circuit trail. Once we reach Pisang we leave the main trail for the climb of Chulu Far East.
The peak has been designated a 'trekking peak' by the Nepalese Government and the climb is graded Alpine Grade PD (Peu Difficle/Slightly Difficult). The climb involves setting up a base camp at approx 4,600m and then a high camp at around 5,300m. From high camp it is a steepish climb to a col at 5,500m, from where we will walk roped up to the summit.
The last part of the summit ridge is steep and the climbing sherpas will set up a fixed rope for the last sections. You will need to be able to use a jumar. Summit day will be very long and we will start at around 2am.
There will be compulsory equipment checks, practice of rope techniques and of using an ice axe, crampons, harness, jumar and abseil device. If you do not participate in all of the sessions the leader has the right to prevent you from attempting the climb. We recommend that you have previous experience of using the climbing equipment, and of walking in plastic boots.
It is important that you respect and take heed of the leader's advice and decisions at all times. The leaders are trained in first aid and are well aware of AMS symptoms and will keep a close eye on the group.
Normal group size and age
Normally 6 to 14, plus leader, Sherpa climbing guides and appropriate local staff. Minimum age 18.
Icons explained
The vast majority of Exodus adventures are adult group holidays. Groups are always small in size. We strongly believe that this adherence to small groups means a better experience for all; more time with your guide, less waiting around and a reduced impact on the communities and environments visited.
Each group is generally made up of like-minded travellers - with singles, couples and friends all joining in together.
All these trips are suitable for single travellers, but if you prefer to travel with clients booking individually, please
see our Solo Departures page.
An E grade tour combines all the elements of our D Grade, tough itineraries, but adds extra difficulties such as tricky river crossings, very high or difficult passes, glaciers or peaks that require basic climbing skills. Often specialist equipment, like ice axes and crampons will be needed and you must have experience of them.

Walking & Trekking: Trips are wholly trekking-focused or simply include a significant number of walking days during the itinerary.
