For me this was a truly wonderful trek - fantastic scenery every day, challenging but perfectly possible (Im 53), and a great support team. I could have kept going for several more weeks!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The excursion to Joe Simpsons base camp was great but there were lots of other lovely times - collecting cow dung to make a camp fire under the stars, beautiful sunsets and sunrises, riding round the lake on a rest day, spotting birds, looking at the flowers, saying hello to  the local people.... I enjoyed every minute. I think the best though was cantering for the first time ever on one of the horses in response to a challenge by Pepe!
What did you think of your group leader?

Pepe is a wonderful leader - kind, enthusiastic, thoughtful, funny, energetic, always interested, very generous with information, and so  keen to share his love for the mountains, Lima and Peru. He has great people skills and is clearly a great manager too, as nothing went wrong. Pepe always goes the extra mile - e.g. organising a lovely massage for those who wanted it at the end of the trek. You can tell Im a fan!

Our local guide Roger was wonderful too - very calm, kind and considerate of everyone. And I really miss him coming to my tent at 6am with a cup of hot tea!

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Take your own mat if you have a good one as those they provide are not great and some leaked.

The nights are very cold - a good down sleeping bag and down jacket for mornings and evenings make it a lot better. Down mittens also help

Dont bother with baby wipes etc - you get hot water twice a day, enough for a quick wash!

My main advice is...get booked on it!

As as solo traveller  really enjoyed the trek, but I was glad I had decided not to share a tent as it was nice to have some time alone and space to pack and sort stuff out each night.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
    It was great!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The whole lot was pretty darned good.

What did you think of your group leader?

Pepe and the team did a great job.

Thumbs up to Victor and Roger, our guides. The pace was perfect amigos.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Take a 4 season pit and down jacket. It gets COLD when the sun goes down.
Is there anything else you would like to add?

    Grumble time!

    1. Tents really suited to festivals in the UK rather than high altitude mountain camping. We did not have much rain but when it did there were leaks.

    2. Tents again. dodgy zips

    3. Did I mention tents? Not enough pegs to pin the things down (see item 1)

What did you think of your group leader?
Pepe was amazing. He spoke fluent English (learned in multiple camp tents), was very knowledgable and handled a diverse group of individuals and abilities with great empathy.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Learn a bit of spanish before you go. The muleteers and cooks are learning English and try hard to communicate but it feels so much better to be able to chat with them (however slowly and hesitantly in my case) in their own language.
Is there anything else you would like to add?

I would recommend this trip to anybody who loves remote mountain environments.

I should also add that the catering was exceptional. 14 days away and fresh food throughout including plenty of fruit and vegetables.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Crossing so many high passes and having great weather at those viewpoints. The location of many of the campsites was spectacular and we were lucky with the weather.

What did you think of your group leader?
Jose "Pepe" Manga and Wilmer 'Wili" Rocha, our mountain guide, were both excellent. Having a Peruvian guide gave us a great insight into the country.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Its a tough trek. Be well prepared fitness wise. Start a walking/exercise schedule well in advance - say 3 months. Make sure your sleeeping equipment is good enough for the cold nights. It was minus 5C degrees several nights.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
The organisation was excellent. We had great camp staff and muliteers who moved and erected our camp for us. Very friendly and efficient. The cook and his assistant were very professional with a great eye for presentation. The food was excellent. The entire staff, including the guides were a pleasure to travel with.
