Frequently Asked Questions
About Your Trip
Andy Buswell recently travelled out to Spain to do this trip and you can read his article here to get a personal viewpoint of the holiday.
How difficult will the walking be in the Sierra de Aitana?
The routes vary in length from 6½ to 8½ hours per day, giving plenty of time on some days to soak up the village life. There are some long days, but overall the trip is classified as Grade B (moderate), although it should be noted that this is one of our tougher Grade B treks. The majority of the paths we follow are footpaths and mule tracks with a gentle gradient, though we will walk on some quite rocky paths and do some sustained ascents/descents. Luggage will be transported for you.

Can I make my own way to Castell de Castells?
The start hotel is approximately an hour and a half drive from Alicante airport and, as such, can be difficult to get to by yourself. A private transfer can be prebooked and will cost approximately 140 Euros. Alternatively you should be able to get a taxi from the airport for around 100 Euros. Please contact Exodus for further details.

What is the standard of accommodation like on TSA?
We stay in three guesthouses in three villages, each place with a different character, but all very comfortable providing excellent meals. The first two accommodations (Hotel Serrella and El Trestellador), where we spend 2 nights in each, have en suite rooms and are locally renowned for their excellent cuisine.
L'Hort de Gloria in Sella, where we spend 3 nights, has 7 rooms, 4 of which share 3 bathrooms. In our opinion the homely character of this place, and of the couple who run it, outweigh any disadvantage of
sharing services.
The first two accommodations have central heating in all the rooms and dining room, and the last one has a fireplace in the sitting room and heating in the bedrooms when necessary. We can enjoy breakfast outside some days, on the terrace at Trestellador, or in the gardens of the L'Hort de Gloria. Good weather should also allow us to enjoy a barbecue one evening!

Do I need to take walking poles?
If you are used to walking with poles then you can take them with you. They are not essential though and the walk is manageable without them. It is personal preference but do remember to pack them as part of your main luggage to be stowed in the hold.
