ALPUJARRAS & THE FOUR SIERRAS
8 days at GBP771 including flights
Tripcode: TSC
A unique trek through some of Andalucia's most picturesque scenery and remote white villages
The Alpujarra is not a mountain range but an area, bounded to the south by the gentle Sierra de la Contraviesa, to the north by the mighty Sierra Nevada, and at the western end lie the rugged limestone Sierra de los Guajares and the spectacular Chaparral. This trek boasts an enormous variety of scenery including rocky meadows and deciduous woodland, ideal for the cooler weather of spring and autumn. In one Sierra we may see 'cabra montes' (wild mountain goats), whilst on another we can spot soaring eagles. Along with the abundance of bird life and butterflies, there is a myriad of native plants in spring, which change in each geological area. Late autumn is also exciting with the dazzling blaze of foliage and a bounty of exotic fruit that we sample on our walks through sandstone ravines, maquis covered foothills, deciduous woodland and limestone crags. We stay in authentic private houses in small white villages and on a working farm, which offers true insight into traditional mountain life.
