An exciting trek through the inspiring scenery of Iceland's stunning volcanic heartland
In just one exciting week this trek explores some of Iceland's most impressive landscapes. From rugged coast to dramatic volcanic highlands, we walk through the southern region of Fjallabak, which means 'Behind the Mountains' and holds an immense concentration of different volcanic scenery.
Our route takes us past craters and across lava flows and streams, skirting lakes and descending through canyons with the occasional peak to climb on our way. The area sits between the Vatnajokull and Myrdalsjokull ice caps and was buried under half a kilometre of glacial ice not that long ago. It is the combination of 'fire and ice' that has created a fascinating and evolving geological wonderland.
