‘TVB Mountain Flowers’ – Album by balkan_trek

The Rila and Pirin Mountains have an amazing flora, a mix of typical alpine and Mediterranean species along with many unique local endemics. Whatever the month, there is always something in flower to brighten the daily walks.

Named after the Slavic storm god Perun, the Pirin Mountains have a wild, rugged beauty. The northern part of the range which is visited by Exodus' TVB holiday has a truly alpine form with jagged peaks, sharp crests, and numerous glacially sculpted cirques and valleys. There are also some wonderful shady ancient pine forests, and an amazing variety of alpine flowers to be found.

Thought to derive their name from an ancient Thracian word meaning 'rich in water', the Rila Mountains hide numerous sparkling glacial lakes behind their jagged peaks and ridges. These are also sacred mountains, and tucked away in their heart lies the breathtaking Rila Monastery which provides a dramatic cultural highlight on Exodus' TVB holiday.
