Frequently Asked Questions

About Your Trip

Are there showers in the mountain hut in Croatia?

Yes, showers are usually available but you should be warned there is no hot water.

Danuta Janik - Croatia Operations

Do any of the TVD hotels have pools?

Yes, the hotel for your first 3 nights has a large pool - there is also a whirlpool!

How big are the dormitories in the mountain hut?

They are a pretty decent size, and you should expect them to be busy at times! There is a maximum of 12 people in one room, and also a second dormitory with 4 bunks. It can be noisy at night so some ear plugs are a good idea.

Do I need any visas?

No, if you hold an EU passport, you do not need any visa to travel. If you hold a non EU passport, please check with your nearest embassy.

What are hotels like in Croatia?

In recent years Croatia has regained its place as a popular tourist destination with visitor levels nearly as high as before the Balkan conflict. Unfortunately a large number of hotels were damaged beyond repair either directly or indirectly during those years and demand now heavily outstrips supply. As a result hotel prices are high and Croatia is not the cheap destination some might expect.
Hotels tend to be more workmanlike than luxurious with communist era style architecture and facilities. Top end hotels are available but charge top end prices and are not used on this trip.

Danuta Janik - Customer Operations

How should I take my money to Croatia?

There are cash machines at all airports, so you will be able to get cash (Kuna - local currency) on arrival, should you not be able to get any before you depart. There are also cash machines in various places throughout the trip, so you won't have any problems.

Ian Langford - Sales

Do I need to take walking poles?

If you are used to walking with poles then you can take them with you. They are not essential though and the walk is manageable without them. It is personal preference but do remember to pack them as part of your main luggage to be stowed in the hold.
