This was a great week- beautiful spring weather, nicely paced walks, great food and cheap wine!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
I really enjoyed the walk up to the Acropolis, and the wallk down the Demosaris Gorge. I swam in the sea twice- beautiful clear water if a little fresh at this time of year. We just had loads of fun, the group were great craic and there was plenty of opportunity for resting and reading as well as socializing. I enjoyed eating in different restaurants each evening.
What did you think of your group leader?
Roger was an excellent leader, he paced the walks well and he introduced us to life in Karystos. I enjoyed his company for the week. We also met Thanos, as he picked us up from the airport. He gave us plenty of information in the short time he was with us.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Bring walking poles, especially after the winter when the paths are a bit eroded and were slippery in places. I think this was the holiday where I got the most use from mine. Do try a swim in the sea. Splash out on the single supplement if you are on your own- the rooms are quite small.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Really enjoyable holiday in a most interesting part of Greece. Especially at this time of year (February) we were the only tourists in town and were made to feel really welcome, especially in the Hotel Galaxy (which should be preserved as a genuine 70's hotel) which is comfortable and clean and in a great location.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The gorge walk is great with stunning scenery- although when we did it we encountered water covering the track. The summit to the Acropolis and Dragon Houses was spectacular and the friendliness and laughter with the group made it a trip to remember.
What did you think of your group leader?
Roger was a great tour leader and really made the trip worthwhile. His local knowledge of the area was fantastic and his ability to interact with everyone in the group is to be commended.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
As a novice walker I would have benefitted in places with having walking poles (although people in the group were more than happy to share).

I hadn't realised that such a large island existed off the mainland until I booked this trip and must say that I enjoyed every moment of it - the walking, the group and food will remain in my thoughts.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
    • seeing the goats give birth on their way down from the mountains
    • completing the walks, which at times, I found quite tough and being able to use the lift to get up to my room!!
    • walking along an almost deserted beach on route to lunch.
What did you think of your group leader?

Thanos was a font of knowledge because he was brought up on the island. His choice of taverna, both at lunch and for the evening meal, was something to look forward to. After 2 reasonably early starts, it was great to sit down and have either coffee and bread or cake, all of which Thanos had carried with him on each walk.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Be prepared to eat lunch early to mid afternoon - usually after the walk - but it was well worth waiting for!!
Is there anything else you would like to add?

The sea view from the hotel balcony was very interesting - watching the small fishing fleet come in and out each day and seeing the catch being unloaded and nets checked - it reminded me of what used to happen in Grimsby at one time (we called in 'Trawler watch').

We were all looked after very well, walked plenty and ate alot - what a great holiday!!

Great to find a non touristy, beach/ fishing port area. Lovely ambiance to hotel, with great breakfasts(the owner also has his own farm produce). Good to eat out at different local restaurants each night.  The walking was perfect and everyone(16) in the group were a similar standard. Local history interesting too. The weather was just right for walking in mid October.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Amazing to see the 4th century Roman columns left, half finished at the top of the mountain and also the two and a half thousand year old, working vineyard.
What did you think of your group leader?
Nothing too much trouble for the guide - he is an absolute gem!! He even carried coffee and cakes up mountains for us and twice went out shopping for sheep's yoghurt for me as I am cow/dairy free.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Walking poles were a big benefit.

This was a very relaxing holiday with some leisurely walking and lots of eating. I would have preferred some lighter lunches at Tavernas, or more picnics, which would have made the evening banquets more welcome and rewarding. The company of the other travellers was very enjoyable as they were a great bunch of people.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The most inspirational moments were: a walk up to a Roman Citadel; a walk to the Roman marble quarry where they sculpted the Roman pillars out of the bare rock. You can cast your mind back and try to imagine the lives of the poor souls who had to work and endure a life there. There was also a walk to a group of old 'dragon houses', which were incredible and I was glad to have seen them. The opportunities to swim in the sea were fabulous, as it was cool, clear and envigorating.
What did you think of your group leader?
Roger was a pleasant, calm, and reliable individual who made sure that everyone was safe and happy. He allowed the faster walkers a chance to stride out in places where there would be no danger of getting lost or creating any problems for the group.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
This is a holiday with walking, and is fairly leisurely, so not one for the hardcore walkers, who may find it somewhat frustrating.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I loved the fact that even though all the evening meals were included in the price of the holiday, we ate at different tavernas every night. That made it interesting and was was very enjoyable, relaxing and fun!

A really great way to spend Christmas. Good walking, great people, really excellent week.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
When we started our walk down the gorge from -2 degrees and ankle deep in snow at the top, to warm enough to eat Christmas lunch outside at the bottom!
What did you think of your group leader?
Thanos was wicked! He was flexible and adaptable, and worked well around the amazing range of weather we experienced
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
I was given a single room without paying a supplement. I don't know if this is done routinely but it is a fairly basic hotel with twin beds close together in every room. I don't think I would have wanted to share when there is such close proximity and no real other place to go except the bar. If personal space is important to you pay the supplement!!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Its a great holiday but don't expect beautiful scenary. It's pretty in part but quite barren and open elsewhere. The food can be boring after a while; I ate more fried cheese than can possibily be good for me! When the weather is rotten there is very little to do. Take cards, books etc to kill time. Most of the walks end after lunch so the afternoons can be quite hard to keep yourself occupied throughout.

Overall a very good week with variety of walks, terrain and eating places.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The descent down the Demosaris Gorge
What did you think of your group leader?
Knowledgeable, understanding of individuals needs and abilities, good rapport with group.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Although classed as moderate, perhaps should be rated easy/moderate.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Perhaps a rethink of journey from airport to hotel on arrival, which was rather tedious.  Return journey much better.
