An excellent trip with great scenery, scary moments, great leaders and a lovely group of people.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Coming down from Triglav. I was so scared but never doubted once that my guide would get me down safely. Then when I looked back at where I had been I really could not believe that I had done it!!
What did you think of your group leader?
The group leaders were excellent. They really looked after us especially on the narrow ridges across the via ferrata making sure we were safe and felt secure at all times. They were also very entertaining and joined in with the social times too.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

There are some scary parts to this trip so if you are afraid of narrow ridges with steep drops, then think again.

Also as you are carrying your pack you really only need the bare minimum of clothing etc. It was amazing what we all left out of our packs on that first day!!

Love the high alpine traversing.  The guides were fantastic.  The scenery was breathtaking.  The trails were not crowded.  The high alpine lakes were gorgeous.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
I felt a great sense of achievement when we reached the summit of Triglav.
What did you think of your group leader?
Both group leaders were great.  They went above and beyond what they were required to do.  They also hired a third guide for summit day.  The guides really enhanced our enjoyment of the entire journey.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Realize the accomodations are bunk / dorm.  You can ask for an upgrade and pay some additional $$ at some of the lodges if you need a good night's sleep.  The food at the huts was basic and bland.  There were few vegetarian options.  Stay a few days in Lubjiana either at the beginning or the end of the trip.  It is a great place to explore and you don't get to see it during this trip.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Not for beginner or unfit hikers!  There are lots of steep drop offs, and not just on summit day.  A good sense of balance with your day pack on your back is required.  Also, be prepared for the weather to change quickly at altitude...........and there is no shelter on those high altitude trails.  But the scenic rewards are worth it!

We really enjoyed Slovenia and the Julian Alps.  Anyone who likes walking in carboniferous limestone areas will love the Julian Alps.  In addition to the usual alpine forests, meadows and exposed cols and peaks there are some wonderful, unusual lakes and the ridge walks were outstanding.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Obviously, climbing Mount Triglav was superb, not least because the weather was very clear so the views from the summit were excellent.  However, the ridge trek on the following day was also outstanding and the hospitality at the final hut was very good.  Because of poor weather on our last day we arrived at the Sports Hotel mid morning and the manager gave an excellent presentation about the Triglav National Park and other Slovenian highlights - you can't imagine a hotel manager doing anything similar in UK, even in the National Parks!
What did you think of your group leader?
Bugi and Alex were both excellent and Bugi in particular had a very good feel for setting a comfortable  pace for the group.  We were very impressed with their attention to safety and the manner in which they swiftly evacuated a member of our group who was taken ill.  For the Tiglav summit we were joined by Mika to further enhance safety.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Bottled water becomes more expensive in proportion to the remoteness of the huts so allow at least €10 per day on average.  Don't be tempted to scrounge on water for the Triglav summit particularly if it's hot - take at least a litre and a half.

Some of the larger blokes in our group found the dinner portions on the small side particularly the day before the Triglav summit so it may be a good idea to buy some high calorie snacks to top up as necessary.

We took sleeping bag liners for the huts but they weren't required as sheets - sometimes paper - were always provided.  Water is in short supply in the huts so it's not possible to rinse clothes, particularly in the higher huts.  However, as you are only in huts for 5 nights we managed with our trekking outfit plus a change for the evening.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Slovenia is a very friendly country and most people speak good English.  In the towns and cities your euro goes much further than in any other country of the euro zone but prices increase rapidly as you reach the remoter huts.  Don't miss the Vintgar Gorge near Bled - the walk back into Bled is good as well.

The Julian Alps is a hidden gem for avid trekkers. The scenery is stunning and the trekking fantastic. The huts were great as was the food and the views from the summit ridge after the scramble ascent above the clouds were awesome. Great leaders and a great bunch of people made for a perfect trip that exceeded all my expectations.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Standing at the foresummit of Mount Triglav at 6am in the morning (thinking the day before we would miss out due to weather) with the whole of the valley below us in cloud as the sun rose over the horizon.
What did you think of your group leader?
Bugi and david were superb. Having led myself on trips before I'm always over critical but the two of them were the ultimate professionals finding the perfect balance between humour, local knowledge and then leadership on the more exposed sections of the ascent. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we wanted for nothing. Bugi in particular had an exhaustive knowledge of the mountains and the area and for me made the trip a real delight.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
The trekking days can be long with both ascent and descent repeatedly on the first few days which can come as a bit of a shock if your not walking fit. The summit day is more of a scramble than trekking using via ferrata equipment, very easy to get the hang of and you are well looked after but you do need a head for heights on some of the exposed sections. The dorms in the huts are well kitted out with sheets and blankets so you dont need your own sheet sleeping bag. There can be alot of spare time in the evenings in the huts so make sure you've got a good book, some cards and your ipod!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I would really recomend this trip, as the Triglav national park is superb and the walking always varied and interesting. The ascent of Triglav summit itself adds an additional twist to the trek for those looking for a bit more excitement, with in our case spectacular views as a reward. The free day at the end in Bled is a great way to unwind after 5 days in the mountains, drinking coffee by the lake, hiring boats. Our group even managed to summon up the energy to go to the local club and dance the night away. If you're looking for something that little bit different, off the beaten track without having to fly for hours then this trip is perfect.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Going through the clouds in the gondola and reaching the clear mountain top.

The group camaderie and craic - our sides ached !

The feeling of space and the great views as well as the scrambling

Rowing on Lake Bled and walking round it

What did you think of your group leader?
Both were extremely competent and very helpful to the group as well as concerned for our safety.  Some of the group would have appreciated a slower pace and longer rests !  However I know we were trying to beat the afternoon showers.  Overall both were great
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Travel as light as possible, most accomodation is communal, take plenty of snacks, it's impossible to say which is the better beer 'red' cans or 'green' cans ! Do take a book or Ipod as you will reach huts early afternoon.  You don't have to take your rucksack up Triglav !  Do hire a boat on Lake Bled and do walk round It

What did you think of your group leader?
We had 2 leaders and inevitably one had better communication skills than the other. Both tried very hard. Very empathetic which I find important.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Do not be put off by hard grading if you are motivated regular hill walker.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Add wet wipes to list of recommended kit. So useful in mountain huts where cleanliness is very desireable.
