Five days of excellent walking in rugged mountains that were at times quite demanding. The Exodus travellers, as always, were a great bunch of people and very experienced trekkers. The accommodation in the mountains varied from comfortable to very basic and the food was basic consisting mainly of eggs, cheese and meat.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The summit of Mount Rysy is usually a long trek, but we were unable to stay at the hut close to the mountain, as planned. This meant an extra 4 hours walking to achieve our aim. I am pleased to say that we still reached the top of Rysy and the extra walk just added to the enjoyment. In all it took us over 12 hours and was quite a tough day. The use of fixed chains was great fun and added to the experience.
What did you think of your group leader?
The group leader (Kuba) was first class. He attended to our every need and I felt that he was assessing our stamina in preparation for the long trek to Rysy. Kuba spoke excellent English, had great knowledge of the mountains and was good company throughout our trek.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

    Three points,

1 You need to be fit and use to mountain trekking.

2 The food is fairly dull and lacked vegetables. Vegetarians may struggle

3 The accommodation in which we spent two nights (to ascend Rysy) was very poor. One shower, one basin and two unusable toilets for about 100 people. So be prepared to rough it.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
The Tatras are both beautiful and rugged. During the week the walks covered most of the Polish Tatras and we regularly crossed the border into Slovakia. We walked in September and the mountain tracks were in places very busy. Zakopane and Krakow are good places to visit and I would recommend this trip.

A very disappointing trip compared to the Slovenian trip in '07. The walking in Poland is good but vey limited, it was like constanly ascending the same ridge line but by different routes. So it wound up being a constant variaton on a theme and far more centre based than I was expecting from a 'trek'. The principle problem was the group, who were only interested in racing to the top of every available summit. About a quarter of the group didn't want to do this but were completely sidelined. My companion and I spent two days walking independantly, something I would not expect to do in an organised group, and this was mainly down to the peak bagging remainder.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Touring Kracow, which says a lot about a walking trip.

What did you think of your group leader?
Nice, but not firm enough with the remainder of the group which allowed it to fragment into 3 or 4 different groups.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
You can't avoid groups you don't get on with. Always remember to learn from good and bad experiences.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
    No
