A superb hut-to-hut circuit through classic Dolomites scenery, with some easy sections of Via Ferrata

Easy Via Ferrata in the Dolomites

The Italian Dolomites are among the most striking mountains in Europe with steep spires and stunning peaks that have attracted rock climbers since the early 19th century. The wild and rugged landscape is a paradise for walkers as well, and our route follows some high trails, locally called Alta Via, on a spectacular circuit above the famed resort of Val Gardena. From one comfortable mountain hut to the next, some easier sections take us through valleys and pine forests, while other paths lead beneath towering rock walls and high into the rocky peaks. Occasional sections of simple Via Ferrata - the famous cable-assisted scrambles - add extra excitement to the stunning trekking.

DOLOMITES TREK
Day 1 Fly to Munich; transfer through Austria across historic Brenner Pass into Italy.
Day 2 Walk to Rifugio Alpe di Tires, cross plateau to Rifugio Bolzano. Afternoon optional climb to viewpoint of Monte Pez.
Day 3 Ascent to Passo Molignon and Passo Principe. Gentle descent to Rifugio Vajolet, at foot of famous Vajolet Towers. Optional ascent – partly on Via Ferrata – to Rifugio Re Alberto I.
Day 4 Traverse below Rosengarten mountains and across Pas de la Coronele. Descend to Rifugio Fronza, with views of beautiful mountains and valleys, through green forests and meadows to Rifugio Gardeccia.
Day 5 Technically the most difficult day. Climb to Passo Scaletta across an easy Via Ferrata section and descend to Rifugio Antermoia near a lake shore.
Day 6 Long descent over rocky terrain and meadows. Up to Rifugio Sassopiatto and ascend Sassopiato peak (2958m) with fabulous views in all directions.
Day 7 Flat panoramic trail then climb to Rifugio Demetz; down to Rifugio Vicenza; continue circuit of Langkofel and return to start hotel.
Day 8 To Munich; fly to London.
