A demanding Via Ferrata trip in the heart of the spectacular Italian Dolomites
Via Ferrata means 'Iron Way' in Italian, referring to a system of cables that cling to the side of the mountains and create routes that would normally be the domain of rock climbers. Our expert guide helps us clip onto the Iron Way to clamber along ridges and up rock faces, always safe in the knowledge that we are attached to the mountain. Following trails originally built for troops during the First World War, we journey from one mountain hut to the next in the Catinaccio range. Varying in length and difficulty, each section of Via Ferrata rewards us with stunning views. A good level of physical fitness, a harness and helmet are required to join this trip, as well as a head for heights.
| Day 1 | Fly to Munich; transfer to hotel in Tiers. |
| Day 2 | Short transfer to Frommer Alm where we take a cable car into the mountains. Up to Catinaccio peaks on Via Ferrata Santner with spectacular views of the Vajolet towers. Afternoon across Passo Principe and Molignon to Alpe de Tieres. |
| Day 3 | Circular walk using sections of Via Ferrata Maximilian to climb the Cima di Terrarossa (2700m). |
| Day 4 | Most difficult day on the exposed Via Ferrata Laurenzi, climb to the Molignon peaks (2778m and 2845m) and on to our refuge. |
| Day 5 | A long day across lunar landscapes of Val di Laussa and down to Passo Scalette. Afternoon on some of the Alta Via di Fassa through forest and meadows. |
| Day 6 | Trek sections of Via Ferrate - climbing the Masare Peaks (2727m) then ascend Via Ferrata Roda di Vael (2806m) for spectacular views. Steep descent before returning by cable car to Tiers hotel. |
