What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Getting lost while mountain biking on the day off my walking holiday. I somehow ended up on the walking track and struggled to ride up (actually push the bike up two thirds of the way to the top of Putzalm. It started to rain soon after I reached the top and I had a white knuckle ride down the wet mountain track as I nearly flipped the bike over a couple of times due to the steepness of the descent.

I am more of a biking holiday type, but I still enjoyed my walking holiday.

What did you think of your group leader?

Terrible taste in music, we all had to listen to the Macdonalds/Pizza hut/KFC song everyday on our way to and back from the walks in the Exodus van. For my trip mates having withdrawal symptons (especially IAN) the link to the song is below...  enjoy

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
    - Put plenty of sunscreen, especially on your lips. The sun is deceptive strong in the cool mountain air.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
As this was my first "Solo" holiday I did not know and I was not told I would be sharing a room. Thankfully my room mate was a top bloke. I was apprehensive as I snore and although he is a light sleeper he did not even once complain about it.

At first I did wonder if, in my haste, I had chosen the wrong trip...I desperately needed a rest and the itinerary seemed packed. However, there was time for both, I had a day to myself in the wonderfully relaxing Hotel Adler and when I was ready to walk the pace was ideal. In the end I was sad to leave so early.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
In terms of the trip itinerary then the final days walk up to Monte Piano and the stunning views from the top, however, a lazy afternoon walk around a balmy Villabassa, the tranquility of the park, the green mountains against an azure blue sky and  the beautiful dome of the church were just as fulfilling.
What did you think of your group leader?
I've lead groups before and what impressed me were the little things, a very experienced walker and leader, always making sure the pace was right which can only come from experience. Very knowledgeable and approachable and someone you'd have total confidence in, in terms of walking up a mountain.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Walking poles, I've fell walked for years and never used any but did buy some locally and they made a huge difference. Would also thoroughly recommend the crazy golf and funbob at Innichen for a day off.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Yes... I did miss the first two walks which was in no small part due to being absolutely shattered by being kept awake on both nights by an Olympic level snorer. I know it seems trivial and quite funny but when you've paid a lot of money and the walks are the highlight of the trip, you need to be refreshed in the mornings and instead I had two nights with barely a wink of sleep. I suffered this once before on a 5 week overland trip through Western China and it's not funny!! I'm not sure what you can do, there were no spare rooms, my room mate was a lovely guy and very apologetic (and it's not his fault) but it really did threaten to ruin the whole trip for me...I do wonder if there is any way in which heavy snorers can discreetly make themselves known. I guess I could pay a single room supplement but having a room share with someone new is half the fun of a holiday. A fellow traveller also missed one of the walks due to the same problem!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The views from the Durrenstein showed an breath-taking 360 degree panorama of mountains across the Dolomites and beyond.
What did you think of your group leader?
Karl is a great leader, setting a steady pace to get the walks completed. This was a grade C week and therefore some of the days were longer and the exposure greater but Karl was very supportive of less confident walkers. His love of the area is very infectious and he is very knowledgable but beware his sense of humour!!! We were a gullible group.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Choose the right grade - the C grade is accurately graded with some exposed scree and some sustained ascents leading to longer days. Take enough kit for all weather conditions - in one week we arrived in very heavy rain, walked in sun and left in snow.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
This holiday reminded me of how lucky we are to have such amazing mountains within Europe - a week isn't long enough but its a great taster and we will be going back.

This is a fabulous trip - both for the experienced hiker and a newer hiker. The scenery is breathtaking, the hotel is great and the food is fabulous.  We also had a great guide who was very knowledgeable about the area. There is alot of interesting history in this area.

As a seasoned traveller with Exodus, this was the first time I've run into any trouble. The trip, though, lives up to what it says in the brochure and trip notes. The mountains are spectacular, the walks excellent and the Hotel Adler is definitely one of the most charming and hospitable used by the company.

What did you think of your group leader?
Conscientious and knowledgable, but could have been more relaxed. I picked a challenging grade week, but most of the clients were more suited to easier walks. A number of the fitter walkers felt we should have been given more scope to push on and test ourselves within the usual limitations of common sense.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
At some point the scheduled group flights for my trip were changed. I was only informed of the inbound change, so when I arrived in Venice on what I thought was the group flight, there was no group and no leader to meet me. To cut a long story short, I had to get a taxi 250km to the hotel, which cost over 400 euro. I wrote to Exodus upon my return and even before an investigation was launched they refunded the full amount, sent me a money-off voucher for my next trip, an apology, a full explanation of what went wrong and an assurance that their standard operating procedure had been changed to ensure that a similar mistake would not happen in the future. Full marks to them for their honesty. It hasn't put me off from continuing to travel with Exodus.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The penultimate days walk to the Drei Zimmen was fantastic - 360 degree spectacular views.
What did you think of your group leader?
Bob was very experienced and considered the needs of all of the members of the group.  No complaints about the leader at all.  He was very knowledgeable about the local area and provided an interesting insight into the historical aspects of the area during the first world war.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
You should be aware that this trip is definately at the easier end of a group B walking holiday.  I think on one day we only walked for 4 hours.  The hardest day involved an 800m ascent on a relatively easy gradient.  However, if you're looking for a comfortable weeks walking with great scenery and the luxury of a good hotel at the end of the day it is a great trip to do.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Most inspirational was the trip to Monte Piano.  I expect you need to have an interest in WW1/History to really appreciate it fully, but the views were stunning.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Must say a big thanks to all my fellow travellers and guide....great bunch, made the holiday even more enjoyable.
