Amazing scenery, excellent tour leader, challenging hiking and great weather all set quite literally in the shadow of the world famous Matterhorn. Easily the best Exodus trip I have been on.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Every day offered something different and it was impossible to isolate one particular moment as ‘the moment’.  In terms of shear breathtaking scenery as we passed under the railway near Gornergrat and saw the peaks and glaciers on the far side of the valley it exceeded anything I expected to see.
What did you think of your group leader?
The group leader was excellent. Had a good knowledge of the area, organised all the little things (eg breakfast times, restaurants in Zermatt etc) that made the trip go seamlessly, tried very hard to accommodate all expectations, abilities and needs.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Firstly I would say to any potential travellers that you should be prepared for some fairly hard hiking. It is definitely not a stroll in the meadows. However the views are reward enough.

Secondly I would advise to not be put off by the relatively high price. There is no getting away from the fact that Switzerland is an expensive European destination but you get a lot of things that you just do not get elsewhere. The Swiss are known for their efficiency so everything just seems to work. The nights spent in the mountain huts were luxury compared to comparable facilities in other countries. In particular the food provided was exceptional, especially at the Rothorn Hut where the dinner was better than you would expect from a top restaurant in London (and that is not an exaggeration!).

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Hard to beat the Matterhorn for the WOW factor!  Trecking around the Glaciers was exhilarating. A great way to escape the hum drum of life back home!
What did you think of your group leader?

A real cool guy.  Great knowledge of the area. Inspired great confidence within the group.

Each member of the group could walk to their own pace without anyone being left behind.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Take a good camera and get yourself fit!
Is there anything else you would like to add?

This is my forth exedus trip, and they get better each time!

This is a fantastic trip.  We had a brilliant time with a lovely group of people, and great views of the Matterhorn, Monta Rosa and beyond.  The weather saved the best for the last day when three of us climbed the Breithorn - clear blue sky, sun and stunning views.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Where do I start.  It snowed while we a the Rothorn-Hutte with the possibility of us not being able to get down the following day.  Thankfully it stopped snowing in the night and our guide did a great job getting us down out of the snowline safely.

Awsome views of the Matterhorn from the Schonbielhutte.

More fantastic views of and from the top of the Breithorn.

What did you think of your group leader?
Sean is an excellent ambassador for Exodus.  We could not speak highly enough about him.  He is very knowledgeable and conscientious but most of all he was very helpful and made time to talk to us as individuals and as a group.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
The ascent of the Breithorn is well worth doing but it is more expensive than it states in the trip notes - unless they have been updated recently.  It cost me approx' £220 which includes the cost of the guide and the cable car.  Hire of equipment is extra.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I went on this trip with my daughter who had been to the Pyrenees with Exodus, which she thouroughly enjoyed.  I am sure we will be travelling with Exodus again.

What can I say The Matterhorn is probably the most recogisable mountain in the world and it did not dissapoint. The weather was great apart from one day, but the evening gave us a treat with the low cloud sitting just below our balcony in the mountain hut. A great week with a great group and great guide.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
The most exciting thing from the trip for me was the acsent of the Breithorn. Punching through cloud into deep blue sky and looking down on some of the most beautiful mountain scenery. It bought a lump to my throat.
What did you think of your group leader?
Group leader Sean was great in every way. He was knowledgeable, and thoughtful for the welbeing of everyone in the group and had a typical Liverpuddlian sense of humour. (If I havn't spelt that correctly, then a good sense of humour typical of a person from Liverpool.)
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

It is a good idea to use Swiss francs as opposed to Euro's as it was easier and they did not give you a very good exchange rate.  Also, wax earplugs are needed to combat the snoring brigade in the mountain huts as you sleep head to toe on one long matress. Also as it has already been mentioned you will need to have a lot more free money than you think. The Breithorn probably set me back another £250 plus food and water is not cheap in a lot of the places in Zermatt.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
All in all a brilliant week and I would not change a thing.

Any enjoyable week's walking around Zermatt that could be improved with slightly better logistics. Quite a bit more costly than the brochure price.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Watching the sunrise on Mont Rosa from the Rothorn hut.
What did you think of your group leader?
Group leader was very knowledgable about the area. Also, it's nice to be allowed to walk at your own pace and "regroup" every 45 mins or so. I much prefer that than being made to walk at the pace of the slowest group member.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Zermatt is not a cheap place to stay! Remember you have to buy four evening meals, drinks and all your picnic lunches. I probably spent an extra £300 although I did drink a lot of weisbeer. Also, if you climb the Breithorn on the final day, that adds on another £170 or so if you don't have your own equipment.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Carrying picnic lunches every day, hmmm. On most days we ate our lunches 5 or 10 mins away from a perfectly good mountain hut. I would have much prefered to carry just an emergency meal and eat in the refuges. Would have saved a fair bit of weight on the 3-day walk and meant a hot meal in bad weather.

This holiday lives up to its name - the Matterhorn is an awe-inspiring sight from every angle and it dominated the horizon. Staying in mountain huts allows you to get further away from the crowds and into the heart of the mountains.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The panorama from the Breithorn across three countries gave a feeling of being "on top of the world" and there was a great sense of acheivement on getting to the top, never having used crampons before.

What did you think of your group leader?
Helen was excellent. She encouraged us all and always maintained a great sense of humour, while being very knowledgeable about the history and wildlife of the mountains.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

There are some hard days up to the huts and it is tiring if you find it difficult to sleep in dormitories. We had glorious sunshine but the temperatures can drop quickly at night so be prepared for anything.

The grading seems very accurate for the walking but dont be put off by the "tough" for the Breithorn - if you have a good head for heights and are fit enough for the rest of the week, its a great experience.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The scenery is wonderful. Glaciers, blue sky and superb views of the Matterhorn from different altitudes, at different times of the day.  Somehow the very sight of the Matterhorn is inspirational.
