What can I say? An absolute classic! What can I say? An absolute classic! What can I say? An absolute classic! What can I say? An absolute classic! What can I say? An absolute classic!

Definitely recommend this trip as a good way of seeing a fascinating country - at a pace slow enough to be able to take it all in - camping in Wadi Rum gives a real chance to tune in the desert. Just rushing around in a jeep wouldn't give the same experience at all.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Waking up to see the Big Dipper constellation right in front of me - learning to count to 12 in arabic, our guide talking about the school where he works part-time and proudly showing us a film of his pupils on his mobile, the morning light in the desert, the sheer beauty of the desert. (And the hot shower/comfortable bed in Petra after 4 nights in the desert!)
What did you think of your group leader?
Yusef is passionate and very knowledgeable about his country and the wider Arab world and was keen to give us an insight into his country. He brought us all together as a group really well and everything ran very smoothly - helped by a very efficient and friendly back up crew in wadi rum who managed to produce hot meals twice a day - at a better quality then a couple of the restaurant meals we ate later on.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Go for it - even if you don't think wild camping is for you   - lying under the stars in the desert is an experience not to be missed. February was a great time to go - not too cold at night but equally just about right for walking during the day - I wouldn't have wanted to go when it was any hotter.

A fantastic trek - The scenery is amazing and unique, at night the stars and moon light up the night and the whole experience of being in the desert,  sleeping out is something I will never forget. Arriving at Petra - I had no idea the scale of the place and the amazing sights - all carved out of the rock - truely amazing.  Try to get there early!!!!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

The unique geology of Wadi Rum, its history and its pure size - A place like no other I have ever seen. Its like a sculptor has been hard at work since the dawn of time - Absolutely Awesome!!!!!

At Petra walking through the Siq to the Treasury and seeing the sun shinning on the carved walls - A lump in your throat appears - and then there is more around the corner -  a huge city - ornate carvings and amazing views - and not to forget the 800ish steps up to the Monastery. A climb well worth it!

What did you think of your group leader?
Mo - was a great group leader - His knowledge and energy kept the places alive - In petra he conducted the tour and explained the history and made the ancient Natataean capital a day to remember. Fantastic!!!!!
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Take Plenty of wet wipes as there are no facilities in the desert, No need for too much luggage - keep it simple and allow yourself to get with the spirit of the bedouins. At night sleep out in the desert under the stars and its then the trek becomes magical. There is plenty of drinking water provided - use it!
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Use a digital camera with a large memory card - I took so many photo's of Wadi Rum and Petra - I needed the whole card and spare batteries - Enjoy!!!!!!!!!

The walk through this beautiful desert area was relaxing and fascinating. The visit to Petra at the end was very different but equally amazing

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Seeing the Treasury at Petra through the narrow rock entrance
What did you think of your group leader?
Knowledegable and very proud of his country he lead us expertly and without hassle. That made the whole trip very easy and we had a leader and guide in one person

The trip notes are not terribly helpful as they stand (April 2009) First of all, on arrival wait for the Exodus rep before getting a visa. He will collect the passports and get the visas for you. This will save you money. Equally  let him do the same for the exit visa. The cost of the visa is in the ticket so there is no exit fee to pay. Amman airport is not the best and can get crowded. Our rep was not there to meet us so be prepared to be patient and wait and dont loose your cool. Take your own toilet paper and take something to dig a hole with too! Wet wipes are a good idea and when communing with nature watch where you choose as there are snakes and scorpions and the former do not like to be attacked by the rear portion of human beings. This is not a big problem so don't be stressed by it, just look before you sit down.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

A great trip and the desert is incredibly varied and beuatiful. Take a buff or something similar as the wind does blow the sand. Hotel standards are iffy and the standard hotel was much nicer than the two supposidly comfortable hotels. Get to Petra early, it is well worth seeing it without the crowds. We tipped the Bedouin sraff 5 dinars each, the two bus drivers 5 dinars each and the leader 25 dinars each.

It was my first time away with Exodus and have to say that overall the trip proved to be one of the best I've ever done.  The stunning location combined with a fantastic group of people certainly will provide memories for years to come.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Sleeping out under the sky, seeing shooting stars and waking up to the most amazing scenery are still impremented on my mind.
What did you think of your group leader?
A very chilled out guy .....
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Make sure that you check the weather forecasts before travelling as many of the other travellers were not quite prepared with their kits for the temperature that was unseasonally high.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
The desert scenery along with the mind-blowingly-spectacular city of Petra still leasve my head spinning now !

Great trek, topped off with a good day in Petra.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Stunning desert landscapes, climbing up to the rock arches for great views, laying in your sleeping bag counting shooting stars as you drop off to sleep, plus one of the new 7 wonders of the world. We were the first group in to Petra and we had it almost to ourselves for the first few hours

Great for the isolation and escape from the real world, and a must do holiday for photography fans. We also travelled with a nice bunch of fellow trekkers, which added to our enjoyment of the trip.

What did you think of your group leader?
Paul was not overly fluent in English, which made him a bit vague and hesitant at times, with no daily trek briefing as we have come to expect on Exodus trips, but a really nice guy, and always good humoured, so this did not detract from our enjoyment of the holiday. Ahmed the cook and support driver was a magician, turning up in the middle of nowhere with his cups of herbal tea and good food, prepared on a gas bottle stove.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Get dirty, sweaty, smelly and don't expect a shower when in the desert. Not a problem though because we were all in the same boat. Don't bother with the tents in the support jeep-wear a top in your sleeping bag and you'll be fine. Just do it and enjoy it.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Royal Jordanian Airlines leave something to be desired. All the group bookings from Exodus and other tour companies were lumped together, so partners travelling together were allocated seats rows apart, and the staff were unwilling to help in resolving the arrangements. The vegetarian meal on the flight out was inedible, so stock up on snacks in the airport before you go. The Jordanian authorities at Petra seem intent on squeezing every last dinar from tourists, making it compulsory that you pay for a guide, who walks you up the siq, and then leaves you to explore Petra alone, which we wanted to do anyway. It is also compulsory to pay for horse rides for ouselves and the guide (and of course, I use that term very loosely!) which we did not take or want.
