Trek through the snowcapped Rwenzori Mountains, Ptolemy's 'Mountains of the Moon'

Rwenzori Mountains

The Rwenzori Mountains, higher than the Alps and ice-capped though nearly on the Equator, are exceptional for their spectacular scenery.

These misty mountains are known for their vegetation, ranging from tropical rainforest through alpine meadows to glaciers and snow, waterfalls and lakes, making it one of Africa's most beautiful alpine areas.

The park has many natural habitats of endangered species and a rich and unusual flora which includes giant heathers, groundsels and lobelias, characterized as 'Africa's botanic big game'. Expect to encounter few other trekkers in this pristine mountain environment, and the lucky may catch a glimpse of chimpanzees scampering off, as they have seen few people and are wary of humans.

NB: Whilst this trip is graded C/D, please note that the Mt Baker climb (included in the price, but optional for all clients) is Grade D - Tough.

Adventure Pioneers - This trip gets our vote!

Adventure PioneersEach year we run a competition that challenges you to design a trip for our Adventure Pioneers range. Out of the entries received we choose the most inspiring, sustainable and appealing to launch as an Exodus trip. They are pioneering. They are different. They are the very best of Exodus Travels. This trip breaks the mould and extends the boundaries of adventure travel.

RT TripWhat makes this trip responsible?

Tourism can be a real help to local communities, providing income, positive cultural exchanges and a financial incentive to protect their natural environment. Ours is a 'total approach' to responsible tourism, covering everything from the way we plan and operate our trips to the practices of Exodus as a company.
Porter welfare is another important part of our staff policy. You may be surprised to learn that, after the Park Fees, porterage is easily the largest single ground cost element on the climb and so the temptation for unscrupulous operators to reduce this cost always exists. Treatment of local staff is one of the major differences we have identified in the operational standards offered by tour operators in Uganda.
