This is a fantasic trip crossing 5 climatic zones. Beautiful scenery, every day was different and challenged us.
- What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
This was a personal journey for me as I had already attempted to climb Kili via the Rongai route in 2011 and failed, only having got to day three when I hit with bad altitude sickness.
This time it was reaching the roof of Africa with 11 out of 12 of the group.
The barranco wall was also a challenge but fun and very rewarding once you reach the top.
- What did you think of your group leader?
Musa was a fantastic group leader, checking everyday how people was feeling and giving sound advice when people was starting to feel the altitude. He looked after us all like he was our parent and always noticed if someone was a little quiter than usual and checking they were ok to continue.
He always had everything in hand and made sure that the pace was comfortable for everyone, sometime splitting the group in two. He was vey easy to talk to and made us all feel very comfortable and we all felt we were able to discuss any concerns with him to put our minds at ease.
The first night when I was a bit unwell he came to my tent 5 times through the night to check I was ok.
He was funny, interesting and always made us laugh, couldn't have done it with him and the team of guides he had with him. Raphael, Declan,Nemis, Nicolas and Gamma. The were just wonderful people and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.
The porters, helping porters and tent porters were wonderful also there everyday to help us in any way possible. The african walking company are the best people I have ever bet and they just aim to please you everyday with a big smile.
- Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Take you time walk slow and take in everything you see, it is all over far too qucikly, take lots of photos even you feel a bit unwel the guides will take them for you aswel.
Think about taking diamox I didn't the first time and failed. You can always take just in case and decide when you get there. Also ibufrophen helps with the headaches.
Make sure you take adequate clothing we had a lot of rain.
Most important do your research you can never read too much.
- Is there anything else you would like to add?
The Kia Lodge where we spent our fisrt and last night and could quite possibly have spoiled a fantastic trip if we had allowed it to.
I cannot quite believe that Exodus would put it guests in such terrible accomdation. It was dirty, the staff were just plain ignorent anf very unhelpful.
We did not feel safe at this accomdation and were never made to feel wellcome. The food was awful and at breakfast the birds were flying in to dinning area and nibbleing on the bread and cakes which were left uncovered.
I feel very let down by exodus, this was my 5th trip and never have I had such bad accomdation.
