  The six-day climb was fantastic. Great team spirit with excellent support from The African Walking Company. Summitting is right up there as the best physical achievement (so far!) in my life. Few days on the beach in Zanzibar were definitely needed afterwards!

  Actually written by Liz, not Alan! A fantastic holiday - our group of six all made it to Uhuru, having encouraged each other on every step of the way. It was without doubt the toughest walk I have done, but, as we all agreed, 'no pain, no gain.' The African Walking Company was so well organised and efficient, that we felt quite sorry for some other groups we met who didn't seem to share the same high standards that we were. As soon as we set off in the morning, our porters would strike camp, then race past us at frightening speed with all the equipment balanced on their heads, to the next site where they invariably found the very best spot for our tents etc. Tanzania is a fascinating country, much more lush and fertile than expected, and the sights and sounds will stay with me for a long time.

  Kilimanjaro was fantastic. Felt a little let down by Zanzibar. Last hotel in stone town was horrible and the bus could not even get to it so had to carry luggage in mid day sun about 1/2 a mile through a busy market. The rooms were not very clean and the mosquito nets had hole big enough for a small bird to get in.
