Isle of Wight Walking Festival 2013
Exodus Travels: proudly sponsoring the 2013 Isle of Wight Walking Festival
The Isle of Wight Walking Festival is back for its 15th year, bigger and better than ever before – and Exodus is delighted to be involved as the title sponsor for this years’ event. Not only are we giving away two places on our bestselling holiday “Walking the Amalfi Coast” (including UK flights!) but we’re sponsoring selected walks too. This May will see the Exodus trekking guild out in full walking force all over the island, from the Tennyson Trail, listed by the Telegraph as one of the Best Walks in Britain, to the stunning white cliff coastal path.
Plus, we’ll be storing a few sneaky treats in our daypacks for anyone who joins us!
Dates for your Diary:
The festival takes place between Saturday 4th and Sunday 19th May 2013, all over the island.
Saturday 4th May: Meet the Walk Leaders
Put some names to faces at this informal afternoon meeting. Not only will you be introduced to many of the leaders for the festival, but you'll be able to chat to Exodus Director of Operations Mike James and Walking & Trekking Programme Manager Chloe Knott. Satisfy your curiosity for all things Exodus and get your queries answered by two people in the know.
You can spot the Exodus aficionados on the following walks:
Saturday 4th May: Tennyson Trail
Exodus’ walking and word enthusiast Gina Lawrence will be on this walk. Having run the Poetry Society at college, this just might be her idea of a perfect day out – 12 miles of beautiful countryside that inspired one of Britain’s finest authors. Don’t let her youth fool you – Gina has been on no less than nine Exodus trips in her 23 years. Joining her will be Sales Manager Jim Carder and Customer Operations Executive Marta Marinelli.
Sunday 5th May: Speed Dating Walk
Love might be in the air! This walk has successfully resulted in four marriages and a baby in the past, so hopes are high. Considering that Exodus Managing Director Pete Burrell met his wife on an Exodus trek, we’ve got indisputable evidence that sparks do fly whilst walking with like-minded people. Keep your eyes peeled for the green Exodus trekking t-shirts amongst the ranks.
Saturday 11th May: Charybdis Passage
Perfect if you fancy a bit of a challenge, the Charybdis passage is roughly equivalent to an Exodus C-Grade (challenging) trek. Meet Walking & Trekking Manager Chloe Knott on this great opportunity to chase the tide. Chloe has climbed Kilimanjaro and trekked to Everest Base Camp in the last two years, so she’ll be able to provide all the advice you need to hit the trails for your next big challenge. Joining her will be Exodus Product Director Jim Eite, who used to lead on Kilimanjaro and has summited this peak more times than even he can remember!
Saturday 11 May: Walks from Rails, a trail of two junctions
The Island is crisscrossed with old railway lines making for some idyllic walking along disused and abandoned tracks. Away from the roads this “rural ramble” is sure to charm Exodus representatives Gina Eckersley and Natalie Shenton, our expert sales ladies who between them have trekked across Patagonia, the Inca Trail, New Zealand, French Alps, Yosemite, Everest Base Camp and China.
Plus, Exodus will be hosting one of our ever-popular evening presentations.
Saturday 11th May: Great Treks Across the Globe: Exodus Presentation Evening
From the summit of Kilimanjaro to the ice cream parlours of the Amalfi coast, Exodus trekking guru and Director of Product Jim Eite talks you through a selection of iconic treks around the world. Accompanied by Walking & Trekking Manager Chloe Knott, Exodus Travels’ trekking experts and their stunning photos taken from their time on the trails, he will talk you through the best of the world on foot, sure to whet your appetite and encourage you to take your trusty walking boots to foreign shores. Exodus is the UK leader for small group walking holidays, offering over 150 treks worldwide.
The Presentation: 7pm, Quay Arts Centre Newport PO30 5BD
Saturday 18th - Sunday 19th May: Round the Island Walk
Around the Isle of Wight non-stop, no sleep and 72 miles of coastal trekking – sounds like a challenge! Paul Steele, travel blogger better known as The Bald Hiker, will be lacing up his well-loved walking boots and stepping out under the Exodus banner.
Of course there are many more walks in the programme, and Exodus will be there ready and raring to go! Watch this space for more information.
