Winter Snow Conditions Weekly Update: 9th January 2008
9th January 2008
After the first week of the new year, many of you will be looking to consolidate those exercise-related New Year's Resolutions, and what better way to justify a ski trip? Especially with the great conditions being experienced across most of Europe and Scandinavia with, in some cases, the last snow falling as recently as yesterday!
Norway is having a great return to form this season, with good snow depth in most resorts and ski centres, and is one of the countries lucky enough to have had a dump of snow on the 8th January. Track conditions are excellent, with those picture perfect forests turned to white again. Take into account the consistently cold conditions associated with this part of the winter and you can guess that new snow fall won't be melting anytime soon. However, we'll start to benefit from a lengthening in daylight ours from now on, increasing the skiing under natural light.
As we predicted in our last snow report, France saw fresh snowfall again at the weekend, with our centre in Chamonix seeing 10cms fall on the 7th January at valley level and more up top. Whether skiing the valleys or mountains, it's definitely worth a visit with snow like this.
Still having a brilliant winter are our Austrian resorts, with Trins and Seefeld seeing new snow on the 6th January. Already good track conditions saw a freshening up with a couple of centimetres of powder and sub zero temperatures to keep it soft. The days are forecast to be fresh but bright and sunny. And even Italy has seen some snow fall in the last week, enough to give the valleys a matching colour to the white of the mountains - Asiago and Dobbiago both reporting long waited fresh falls.
So, with the post-Christmas spread in need of being burnt off with vigorous exercise, why not take the opportunity to pick up one of the last available places on our winter cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trips? Ours sales team are ready to answer your questions, either by telephone, email or why not try the new "live chat" icon on the website and communicate directly over the internet?
