Amazon - The Greatest River on Earth
15th September 2008
Bruce Parry, the presenter of the BBC programme Tribe, is filling our lounges with yet more stunning scenery and images as he shares with us his latest journey of discovery from the source of the Andes all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.
In tonight's episode, Monday 29th September at 9pm on BBC2, Bruce travels into the Brazilian Amazon and shows the impact the outside world makes when it comes into contact with tribes, himself spending time with the Marubo tribe.
This series takes us from the High Andes of Peru, through the jungles of the Amazon Rainforest, before finally arriving 9 months later, at the Atlantic Ocean in Brazil.
As you would expect from Bruce Parry the reportage is full of adventures along the way including four medical evacuations, getting stuck on the mud roads, engine problems on remote tributaries and running out of food on numerous occasions! He doesn’t shy away from some very important issues affecting the region including the changing lifestyles of the indigenous tribes, the dramatic deforestation of the Amazon and understanding the importance of the coca leaf to the local peoples.
